Jack Osbourne had a normal life in 1941. Living in West Virginia, he had just graduated high school and planned to spend time with his long-term girlfriend, Maryanne O'Brien. While he figured out his next step in life, a war was raging across the Atlantic Ocean and in the Pacific, but it seemed like it was another world away. Then, on December 7, 1941, everything changed.

Struggling to gain his father's approval to enlist and serve his country in WWII, and then struggling to survive the war, "Mountaineers Are Always Free" follows Jack Osbourne as he tries to do both. Can Jack do his part for his country and make it home to Maryanne? The story follows Jack from Huntington, WV, to England, to Utah Beach on D-Day and beyond as he and his friends Nick Logut and Gene DeLong fight for their country, their freedom, and the freedom of the world. The war leaves Jack asking himself, are Mountaineers truly, always free?

Matt DiSilvio is originally from Pittsburgh, PA and now resides in Huntington, WV. He is a graduate of West Virginia University where he received his Bachelor’s in Communications (with a minor in History) and his Master’s in Human Resources. He currently works as a Human Resources Professional. Mountaineers Are Always Free is his first novel.
