Phillip by Kathi S. Barton

Phillip Lanning is beyond tired. The jobs they've been doing with their search and rescue company are just draining him. He needs a break and isn't sure how to tell his brothers that he's burnt out. When Nic appears in his apartment to tell him of another mission, this one happens to be his mate, and she's sick to boot, Nic tells him that the only way she'll live is if he converts her into a leopard. She doesn't have much time left. Phillip doesn't know what to think.
Charleston Grant, better known as Charlie, knows her days are numbered. The tumor's pressing on her optic nerve and the doctors aren't giving her long. And when she fell into possession of a coded book, she and her mom became a target. Charlie just wants to get her mom to safety before she dies. Nic tells her he can help her with that, to go with the Lannings and everything will work out.
When Charlie wakes, she knows something is off. She was supposed to die, but instead she can see. And the story she gets about shifters and immortality has her head spinning. Not to mention finding out that her mother isn't really her mother and her life to this point has been one big lie. And the woman she's been protecting has sold her out...Charlie is at her wits end. Now a surprise visitor, a fate, shows up and says that Charlie and Phillip were never supposed to meet...she had gone to great lengths to make sure of both Charlie and Phillip are pissed. Who does this woman thinks she is?
The fate, Sonya, needs Charlie out of the way. She needs all the mates out of the way. None of the Lannings were supposed to find their mates, much less reproduce. When she is queen she'll make sure they're all destroyed....

Phillip Lanning is tired, he just wants to sleep for a week and is not impressed when Nic shows up to tell him he has to go save someone important to his family. Finding out the person is sick with little time remaining doesn't make him happy, finding out its his mate just adds to the pressure. Charleston Grant is running out of time, she is getting weaker by the day and just wants to end her life. However, first she must get her mother to safety and Nic promised he would see that done. When he brings Phillip to help things go quickly to crap and she finds herself waking up with a new perspective on life. Phillip was always the one the mates liked, he seemed so sweet but underneath is a man of steel. I liked getting to see this other side of him, watching him and Charlie come together was quite amusing. Both are strong willed and are sure to butt heads. Young Max helps to figure out some of the mysteries, I do hope he will get his own story at some point. Easy to read, some mystery, a bad guy or two of course and a plot that is unfolding with each new story. I love how each story is connected by something, having the other characters interacting keeps the family feeling and provides for some great reading. I look forward to seeing where the author goes next. I was given an ARC for an honest review

Phillip Lanning is the the youngest of the Lanning brothers. Like his other brothers the job he's doing with Lanning Search & Rescue is starting to take a toll on him. All work without much positive outlook would wear any person down. When Nic tells him he must go rescue Charleston Grant and must be ready to make an important decision for him and Charleston. Charleston Grant, aka Charlie, knows her days are numbered. If she doesn't die from the tumor she's sure the men that are chasing her will catch up to her and put a bullet in her head. She knows nothing about paranormals and has need for a mate when she knows she's just going to die. But after passing out, she wakes and finds she can see, her mother sold her out, and oh yeah the newest visitor says she was never suppose to meet Phillip. How much can one woman take? Find out what happens when you threaten a Lanning's mate and future. Also see what happens when all of the family comes together to take out the enemy. BTW I CAN'T WAIT FOR RIDER TO MEET HIS MATE!!!

Meet Phillip Lanning - he works with his brothers doing search and rescue. He's tired - bone weary tired and just wants to sleep. But that isn't his luck when he is told he needs to find Charleston Grant. Charleston is better known as "Charlie" and is sick - in fact she is dying and only Phillip can save her as she is his mate. There are many people after Charlie for a "book". Can Phillip save her? This is most definitely a must read and would recommend to everyone. Congrats to Kathi S Barton on another great book and series. Can't wait to read the next in this series.

Phillip, book 4 in the Lanning's Leap series is my favorite one so far. As part of Lanning Search and Rescue, Phillip is just one part of the team. He is also the next in line to find his mate. Her name happens to be Charley, and she is dying. The only way to save her is to turn her, not knowing if she is strong enough to survive. But survive she does. Not knowing about shifters, Charley has a bit of a problem accepting that at first. She doesn't seem to have a problem with being Phillips mate. Several things are going on in this story and I really recommend reading the first 3 books before reading this one or you will be confused. With other races of beings, "mobsters", crooks and an extraordinarily smart child it will be easy to become lost. I would like to say that I wish the Lanning's lived in my town. I was given a copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.
