Pink Tears
In a childhood full of love, culture, church, and happiness, Patricia Newsome's life was turned upside down abruptly at a young age. She learned harsh lessons in grief, trauma, and pain. When she decided to take on the world as an adult, she moved away from her family and was met with more lessons in love, respect, and even more pain. When she gave up her dream of serving in the U.S. Military and consumed herself with love, motherhood, and her career, dangerous and stressful obstacles tried to stand in her way. Just when she got out of her old situation, she learned that she had breast cancer. Knowing the statistic that a woman's lifetime risk of breast cancer is 1 of 8 did not make that news any easier to hear. Learning that 40% of women with breast cancer are African American was disturbing and terrifying. Understanding that African American women with breast cancer have a 42% mortality rate, Tricia knew she was in for the fight of her life. She realized early in her fight that in order to beat cancer, she would have to learn new ways of eating, new ways to manage stress, and eventually embrace a new appearance. Tricia reconnects with her faith and God, stronger than ever before. With her faith, disciplined diet, and a new mindset, she takes us on her courageous life's journey.
