Polly (Illustrated): A Christmas Recollection

Polly is a little girl who grows up on a southern plantation with her adoring father, "the Colonel," and black servants, mainly Thom and his wife Cynthia. Polly and her boyhood friend, Bob, fall in love, much to the dismay of her father, who is terrified at the prospect of losing her. Polly, nonetheless, runs off with Bob and gets married. They hope to reconcile with the Colonel on Christmas Day, but it's not certain that the Colonel is going to have any part of it.
