Requisites

Over two thousand five hundred years ago, the Buddha suggested that a seeker's possessions could be pared down to eight requisites -- an outer robe, an inner robe, a cloak for winter, a bowl, a razor, needle & thread, a belt and a water strainer. In this collection of poems, taking each element from his list, Ramya Jirasinghe accompanies us on a quest for contentment, where rejection of heedless consumerism could lead to ecological harmony and the Earth's restoration.
