There’s so much to say about this book as I’ve seen it go from strength to strength as I fell in love with it when I was lucky enough to get to read the prologue and chapter 1 prior to initial publication. The characters are human; sometimes weak, fearful and yet surviving. This makes them very relatable, even those with some distinctly fantastic capability is still someone that struggles like each of us. The events are gritty, again in a way that reflects real life, but at the same time the story and the setting take you away to another place. The pieces of the puzzle are complex in a way that takes a little patience before starting to bring them together, patience that hopefully will be greatly rewarded further in the series. The complexity isn’t too much, it’s just right to pique interest and ensure that this is a world that seems alive around its characters. Overall, the book is one where the reader can escape into a thriving world that balances fantasy with familiarity in an absolutely beautiful way. I look forward so seeing the latest version on paper.

Epic fantasy with a grim realistic theme. A large but intriguing cast are revealed one by one until their lives begin to intersect into a whole. The shattered mercenary Drangor, is hunted by demonologists, but he knows not why. The gifted young thief, Jesgar, who suddenly finds himself surrounded by war and espionage. The nearly immortal Chosen, Kildanor, a warrior of the god of sun and war, whose followers are guarding something ancient and powerful. An awakened but untested wizardess, Ealisaid, finds herself the last of her kind after a century of sleep. The Elves, uncaring of the affairs of men, are living beyond the veil of dreams. But for one, summoned back into the real world by the need to attempt to right a terrible wrong unleashed upon the world. Left behind when the Elves carelessly left a terrible knowledge and power unguarded. As the human world begins yet another war for power, a greater evil grows from within a forgotten tomb. which the elves have quite carelessly left behind. Highly recommended read. Like the chapter POV changes of George R.R. Martin, the complex characters and their struggles find their paths crossing. They web is pulling tighter and closer. A grim tale from chapter one, you will find yourself hooked and pulled into this world from the first chapter.
