About the Author

Robert Keable (1887-1927) was a British writer, missionary, and priest. Ordained in the Church of England in 1911, Keable served as a missionary in southern and eastern Africa for several years before enlisting in the armed forces as a chaplain in World War I. The war left Keable disillusioned with the Church, which he left along with his wife in order to marry a young nurse. The couple moved to Tahiti in the early 1920s, where his health began to fail, especially after the death of his new wife in 1924. Keable's experiences in World War I and affair served as the basis for SIMON CALLED PETER.
