About the Author

Jake Hershey

Jake was born and raised in the tiny farming and ranching community of Runnells, Iowa.
He competed in the saddle bronc riding event of rodeo from 1994-2006. In 1997 he accepted a rodeo scholarship from Missouri Valley College and graduated in 2002 with a bachelor's degree.
While living in Texas in 2005, he met his wife Christie and began attending a cowboy church. They were married in April of 2007 and baptized together the next day.
In 2008, Jake was approached about starting and pastoring a cowboy church. He accepted the call and held church in a barn for over 2 years where well over 100 souls were saved. In July of 2011, he felt it was time for someone else to take over the church God had called him to start and he stepped down as pastor.
Jake now makes a living doing what he's always done-shoeing horses, floating teeth, starting colts and day working for neighboring ranches. His hobbies include competing in ranch rodeo, reading, writing and the occasional team roping jackpot. He continues to write and preach when asked to at various cowboy churches and other functions, as well as being a founding member and vital part of Save the Cowboy.
Jake was the primary author of the Simplified Cowboy Version-Paul's Letter to the Romans and is available to speak, preach, or just give you a hard time. Contact him at jake.hershey@savethecowboy.com.

Kevin Weatherby

Kevin spent most of his life either living on a ranch or day-working on one when he could. He spent his high school years on the Rocker B Ranch in Big Lake, Texas and later worked on the San Pedro Ranch outside of Carrizo Springs, Texas. In between all of these ranches and breaking colts for the public, he worked in the oilfield supply business and became the Pastor of the Pecos County Cowboy Church in Fort Stockton, Texas in May of 2008.
Kevin and his wife Christie used to live and run the family ranch near Coyanosa, Texas with their two children: Their daughter Reilly, and their son Griffin. That was until God called them to Colorado. He never thought he would leave Texas, but God often calls us out of our comfort zone and into His service.
He published his first book in April of 2011. The Great Cow-mission is a collection of short stories and devotions that are sure to reach into the heart of any cowboy or cowgirl.
Kevin also authored the first Cowboy Bible paraphrase with the Simplified Cowboy Version-Gospel of Matthew.
