Straight up confession, I am not a fan of second chance romances. Also, this couple is every reason why I don't like second chance romances, because they truly did waste so many years for absolutely no reason. But despite that fact, the story of what they did know, and the mystery they end up embroiled in, made me love this book This is the 4th book in the series, but can easily be read as a standalone. Roman and Augustine had an ill-fated romance years before. They were each others true love, but they broke up. Neither really pushed that hard to get back together, and they end up working together. Something changes in Roman, and he makes a ploy to get him and Gus (Augustine) back in bed together. The mystery that was in the previous books is re-stated here, and the couple in this book in the middle of it. I loved that Gus was a take charge woman, who took no guff from anyone, and stood up to everyone. She had her vulnerabilities, and she wasn't embarrassed by them either. I loved how Roman finally figured out what everyone around him had always seen and knew, and once he did, how he rolled with it. He and Gus were truly perfect together and they compliment each other in every way Now, that ending, not a cliff hanger, but definitely leaving you wanted the next book immediately!

I have to admit there are parts of this book that drags a smidgen , but the cliff hangers are great. I can't wait for the next one . Unfortunately it won't be released for a YEAR.

Wow! Just wow! Smoke and Sin, the latest in The Perfect Gentlemen series has blown me away. This book is absolutely fantastic – one of the best stories of 2017! Co-authors Shayla Black and Lexi Blake have truly outdone themselves with this one. It has everything a great story has to have. We have met most of the characters in earlier books in the series but we get to learn lots more about them, especially Roman Calder, known to White House staffers as The Hitman and Augustine “Gus” Spencer, known to White House staffers the Ice Queen. The storyline not only flows, it sizzles. There’s so much excitement, action, suspense and hot lovin’ in this book. The conflict is well defined and the overarching mystery continues but there is resolution for many of the conflicts introduced here. The dialogue is excellent, so very entertaining and just perfect for the characters. Take this for example: Connor says, “And Gus, you carrying?” Gus answers, “Of course.” Conner then responds, “Don’t be afraid to use it.” Roman speaks up next, “What are you carrying? Please tell me it’s a rape whistle.” Of course it’s not a rape whistle. I can’t say enough good things about this story. If you haven’t read any of The Perfect Gentlemen series you need to get started – pronto. I recommend that you read them in order. Scandal Never Sleeps Seduction in Session Big East Temptation Smoke and Sin Smoke and Sin has been the absolute best so far. Don’t hesitate, start reading. For the record: I have been vindicated.

I have read all of Shayla's books as well as all the books in this series. I honestly skimmed through most of it. The characters are impossible to connect with. So much whining and ridiculous woe is me story line. I enjoy romance novels when the characters have been together TOGETHER for longer than the last chapter. This whole series has just been hard for me to read. But paying $10.00 for this book was my mistake. I think I will let the rest of this series go. Rethink your writing style PLEASE and maybe your followers will continue to spend their hard earned money. I however will not be one.
