Overview

Her mind tells her to run. Her body begs her to stay. Her heart must make the choice.

After months spent eluding the djinn who's been tracking her, Leila Donovan is cornered. With nowhere left to run, she braces herself to be picked off just like the rest of her companions who survived the Heat, a djinn-inflicted virus meant to wipe out mankind.

Instead, her dark-haired, night-eyed captor bestows a fiery, bone-melting kiss - and whisks her away to an opulent beach house in Malibu.

Unknown to Leila, Malik al-Mazin has been protecting her. From the Heat, from the assassins pursuing its survivors, and, most of all, from the predations of Omar al-Tariq, a sadistic djinn who revels in inflicting pain.

Once Leila comes to accept Malik as her Chosen, she will be safe. But despite their riptide-strong sexual chemistry, easing her into trust will take precious time, especially since she has the unusual ability to resist any attempt to magically influence her mind - a gift that may be her only hope when Malik is tricked into turning his back for one crucial moment...

Note: The Djinn Dominion series is a spinoff from Christine Pope's Djinn Wars novels. Each story is a standalone romance with no cliffhangers, although some plot lines and characters carry over from book to book.

I am a Christine Pope fan and very much enjoyed the Witches of Cleopatra Hill series but had not read any of the Djinn books. The beginning of this book was very somber and actually depressing with most of the human population on Earth wiped out by the Djinn and their choice to "cleanse" the Earth of humans. The main character, Leila Donovan, is a small time actress and has been on the run trying to survive for about 6 weeks by the time Malik al-Mazin manages to catch up to her. She is struggling to make sense of a world gone crazy, living without human contact, not known the fate of her family and then Malik drops into her life. He also struggles with what the Djinn have unleashed on the Earth, trying to locate and then keep Leila safe. That Ms Pope manages to create a romance out of this madness is amazing. She doesn't shy away from showing Leila's grief at all she has lost and how much change she is enduring, she also creates a hero who while understanding and compassionate can kick some serious ass on the "bad" Djinn. I look forward to the next book in the series.

It’s not often when you get a chance to read the first book of a brand new series. Technically, though, this is the first of a spin-off series from Christine Pope’s Djinn series. Maybe she decided that it was time to look at this world from a different angle. Either way, Stolen, this book of a new series, the Djinn Dominion, doesn’t disappoint. Leila Donovan has been running for two months, desperately trying to escape a Djinn who follows her everywhere. Little does she know that she has been Chosen by this Djinn, Malik Al-Mazin. Malik finally catches up to her and tells her about the new life that she will be living with him. The question is, however, whether or not she will ever trust him, even when he tells her that he’s protecting her from another Djinn? Thrust into this new world, Leila has to decide for herself whether or not to have Malik be a part of her life. As the days go by their relationship changes and develops, aided by their strong sexual attraction. Then Omar al-Tariq shows up to claim her as his prize and then Leila has to trust her wits to see if she can survive… The characters here are strong and interesting and the locale next to the Pacific Ocean is beautiful. It’s going to be exciting to see how this new series develops. I think the Djinn Dominion will make a great addition to the Djinn world.

Great start to a new series. Leila has been on the run since most of the population died from a virus that was unleashed by the Djinn in an effort to retake the planet. Malik has selected Leila as his “chosen” which has protected her, now if he can only catch her. The story moved along very nicely. I liked both characters and found their reactions realistic. This does work as a stand-alone but I’m anxious to see how the rest of the series plays out. (I voluntarily reviewed an ARC).

What's a girl to do when Earth's population is dieing out? Leila is one of the few remaining survivors of the Heat, a disease that has wiped out most of the people on Earth. She's one of the remaining few who is immune. As one of the remaining few, she is Chosen by Malik to be his intended. Malik is a Djinn and his kind are responsible for the Heat and the decimation of Earth's population. Leila has been on the run since the Heat's arrival, she and a group of survivors move frequently to avoid the djinn. However, they are found. Leila manages to escape, but is found by Malik. He takes her to keep her safe, as time is running out. As she spends time with Malik, Leila learns more about djinn. There are more questions and than answers about how she survived and why. But together, they begin to form a relationship. The new found relationship is nearly destroyed by another. Overall, a great read and one that kept me reading. I couldn't put the book down. I was sent an ARC book, but this does not affect my opinions of the book. The story was great to read, as we learned a lot about Malik and Leila both in their time together and apart. It's a romance with heart and soul. We see both characters as they struggle and strive through the various situations that they are put through. I highly recommend this book if you enjoy stories that feature djinn and strong characters who aren't always badasses and feel other things. While there are fantasy elements like the djinn, it feels like this story could easily happen right now. The characters are relatable and the story keeps you on your toes to finish. It's got romance, mystery, intrigue, and fantasy/magical elements. A wonderful read that gives you the feels.

A new slant the brilliant Djinn series! This series is set in sunny California with a new set of Djinn from the One Thousand. Leila Donovan is unsure why she is the only one to survive from her little group of survivors. She feels eyes on her at weird times and places and has evaded a close call or too with the Djinn. She knows the tales of the Djinn of old from her Persian grandparents but never gave them much credence. But sure enough they are back and have wreaked havoc on the world. Malik al-Mazin has made Leila his Chosen, if only to save her from the clutches of the manipulative suitor who had originally planned to take her. But his time is running out, if he doesn't get Leila to accept him by the end of the year, she will no longer have protected Chosen status and could be hunted down like the rest of the Immune! But first he has to catch the damn female before he can tempt her with safety and freedom as a Chosen! Leila is sure not going to go easy on Malik. She has lost, family, friends and an abortive acting career because of his kind. She finds it hard to accept his benevolent wish to protect her. But she is also intrigued by him and has more than a few clashes of conscience. But before she can make a definitive decision she is snatched from his palatial Malibu home by the very male who stood down from Malik's challenge for her, his reasoning being se was "not worthy" of the fight! Well written and intriguing new characters in a well established world! Fab!
