Overview

Stolen Course by Aly Martinez

**Each book in this series can be read as a stand alone.**

I fell in love with Manda Baker eight years ago, and I loved her to the core of her soul. We were supposed to have that elusive happily ever after and spend a lifetime together. But that was all before she was STOLEN from me.

Her best friend, Sarah Erickson, killed her. It wasn't intentional. It was far worse. Everyone claims it was just an accident, but I can see through the lies. Even if it's with my dying breath, I will make her pay for what she did.

Fate hates me. It robbed me of my first love and left me to navigate through this world emotionless and numb. Then, one day, spiteful fate gave me a woman to fill my shattered soul and make me feel again. It gave me Emma Jane Erickson. Now I spend my days searching for the answers that will ruin Sarah and my nights falling in love with her sister-the one person who is bound and determined to save her.

But what happens when everything you know to be true explodes around you? Who will be left to pick up the pieces, and who will need to be saved from the wreckage?

WARNING: If you are ovulating, then you may become pregnant while reading this book. Seriously…I took a pregnancy test after I was done because it was so hot. It was negative, but I wouldn’t have been disappointed to carry Caleb’s love child. Consider yourselves warned women of child bearing age. This is Caleb’s book. We met him in Changing Course and I guess if you had to describe him in one word it would be angry. Caleb is very angry that his one true love was stolen by a few drinks and some bad decisions on the part of Sarah Erickson, her best friend. He has spent years fostering this hatred, grooming it and going as far as to have it inked on his body as his own personal talisman of pain. Caleb’s a complicated guy. But to make things more complicated, he meets and starts to fall for Emma Jane, Sarah’s sister. They meet at the hospital after Sarah was admitted and they have an instant attraction. When Emma Jane moves to be closer to Sarah, she and Caleb begin to see each other. But with Caleb carrying around a chip on his shoulder the size of an albatross, can he let go of the past in order to find happiness again? I loved the first book in this series. If you’ve not read it, you don’t really need to read it in order to read this one, but I seriously wouldn’t miss it. I thought it was a wonderfully surprising book by a new author and I have to say that this second book was even better. It’s written beautifully and concisely, it’s complicated but easy to follow. As a seasoned reader I am always taken aback when there’s a twist I didn’t see coming. Well, kudos dear author, because the twist in this book had me sitting straight up at 2am yelling “WHAT?!?!?” After my husband recovered from the heart attack and I kept reading, I was simply blown away. Of course, this story wouldn’t be anything without the hero and heroine, and they are both fantastically written and complicated characters that I fell in love with. Caleb, I knew I would love once I dug deeper, but I have to say I was a bit surprised to like Emma Jane so much. And her roommates…how does this happen? I never had roommates like that, and quite frankly I feel I’ve missed out on something. Anyway, Emma is sweet and loving, but fierce and loyal. She’s definitely a step up for Caleb, and I’m glad he was able to realize it. Overall, this was a phenomenal book. It has everything you could possibly want to read in a romance novel: off the charts steamy sex, mystery, bone jarring surprises and a solid and realistic love story that will make your heart happy. I am a devoted Aly Martinez fan girl. She’s never getting’ rid of me. 5 stars. Reviewed by Sara Squared for Crystal’s Many Reviewers *Copy Provided for review*

5 star I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, betrayal, tragedy, love, forgiveness, pain, and heartbreak. Aly will make sure to pull all your emotions out so be prepared. You will need some tissues….. This series is stand alones books but I would recommend reading them in order: Changing Course (Wrecked and Ruined, #1) Stolen Course (Wrecked and Ruined, #2) This is Caleb’s story. Caleb is a broken man. He blames one person for him pain and has often wished her dead. He believes with everything in him that Sarah was driving the car that killed the woman he loves. Does not matter that Sarah is also grieving the loss she should just be dead as far as he is concerned. Emma believes he sister was not responsible. She will fight Caleb to see that Sarah is just as broken as he is….. This is not a sweet love story. This is a gut wrenching, high drama, and pain filled story of forgiveness and healing. Can Emma and Caleb move pass the pain and learn to love? This story is full of twists and turns that will have you reeling. When more information comes out about what really happened back then you will be shocked!!! I totally didn’t see it coming….. I loved Caleb. He was broken but turned out to be a really great guy would loves really deeply. There were times you want to smack him (really hard with a brick) but don’t worry he will turn out great in the end. Loved that fact that the author took you back and forth so you really got to understand the characters and there frame of mind throughout the story. I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next one.

*****5 Stars***** I just jumped into this book right after finishing Changing Course, which I loved. I would say I love this one even more. Yes, you can read this as a standalone but I highly recommend you read Changing Course first. The story takes place between the end of Changing Courses and the epilogue, and then after the epilogue as well. I love, love, love Emma. Not only did I feel like she was a strong character, she wasn't annoying to me. When she was emotional I felt like I would be too and she had every right to be. This made me feel more connected to her. Now, This book has a totally different feel than from the first book. The characters are so different and even though both stories revolve around one tragic accident 5 years ago. I love that these books show how everything can change in an instant and how it effects everyone differently. Caleb is still hung up on his fiance Manda's death and still blames Sarah for stealing his life from him. He wants revenge and is willing to do anything to get it. When Emma, Sarah's sister comes to town and meets Caleb for the first time it may change things for him. Emma decides to move from Savannah to Chicago to care for Sarah while she is in treatment and to be closer to her. She asks Caleb to update her on Sarah's progress while she gets everything together for her big move. He wishes Emma was anyone but Sarah's sister. He wants nothing to do with Sarah but he finds himself unable to say no to Emma and they begin a long distance relationship over the phone until she moves. Knowing that they are walking into something that could be terrible. They still want to try and give it a shot. Just as she arrives to Chicago she finds out how much Caleb truly hates Sarah and things get ugly and this is just the beginning of their long list of problems. There are a lot of thing that come between them and the truth of the night that changed everything unravels and only they can decide if love can rule over hate. I really don't want to give much away. But you should definitely read this book NOW! I LOVED IT!

After getting to know bits of Caleb in the first book in this series, Changing Course, I couldn't wait until he got a story of his own. Caleb was a complicated man with an even more complicated past, but I still couldn't help but love him – flaws and all. Caleb harbored A LOT of anger at the death of his fiancée, Manda. It was no secret he blamed Sarah completely.  Though witnesses said Manda was driving at the time of the accident that killed her, he never believed it and, as a cop, never gave up looking at the evidence, trying to find a way to prove his theory. In addition to anger, Caleb feels a lot of guilt because he and Brett had been with the ladies shortly before the accident and he's convinced had he stayed, Manda would still be here. All this anger and guilt had turned Caleb into a very hard man. He didn't do the relationship thing because he couldn't bear to think about losing someone he cared about again. Emma arrives in town shortly after her sister Sarah's latest episode. She's sweet and sexy and all the things Caleb doesn't need in his life (or DOES NEED, but is unwilling to admit) – especially since her sister was responsible for Manda's death. Caleb was set on making sure Sarah paid for her role in Manda's death. Emma would do anything to protect her sister. Despite all this, Caleb feels an immediate attraction to her and their friendship and flirtation blossoms over a few phone calls. When Emma moves to town, they pick up where the calls left off and, holy cow, they were combustible together.  Caleb and Emma's relationship started pretty quickly and didn't take very long to grow incredibly intense. I thought they were a great couple, but man did they make me angry at times. I know Caleb was dealing with a lot, but he was a real dick to Emma at times and she had a tendency to be a doormat. Even through the toughest times, and trust me there were plenty of those, I still believed in them as a couple, even if I wanted to scream or shake some sense into them. There really never was a doubt in my mind that they belonged together, but their relationship was far from easy. Of course, as more was uncovered about Caleb and Manda's relationship, his insecurities and anger made more sense. It might not have excused them entirely, but I felt like I knew where he was coming from.  This book, much like the first in the series, was big on emotions for me. I was completely exhausted when I finished it. I won't spoil the scene for you, but there was one absolutely heartbreaking scene that filled me with so many feels that I wasn't sure I was going to be able to get through it. My eyes are tearing up right now, just thinking about it. It was such a beautiful, absolutely perfect moment. There was also a HUGE twist that shocked me to no end. No way did I see it coming. But, it wasn't a twist that was so "out there" that it was unbelievable. If anything, all the pieces fell together and it completed the story.  I don't know what the author's plans are beyond this book, but I know I will definitely be on the lookout for more from her, whether in this series or something different. I really enjoy Aly's writing style and her complicated characters. Both of the books in the Wrecked and Ruin series were unique and full of feels. The men were alpha, yet vulnerable, and the women were relatable, and the sexy scenes were super steamy. It's easy to get immersed in the world of these characters – the good, the bad and everything in between.  I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Another really good story. Unfortunately, the grammar in this one was even worse than the first. Maybe it's just me, but when I read a poorly formed sentence it tends to jolt me out of the story and back to the fact I'm reading. Annoying for me. Maybe not so for all. I do recommend it if the grammar doesn't bother you.
