It was a very good thing that I read this in front of a warm wood stove because I could almost feel the blizzard conditions in the book. Such vivid detail of weather conditions, outdoor surroundings, sounds of chaos in a normally bucolic setting of farm, field and forest. All the while we are led through the storm by a 16 year old heroine attempting to save her mother from herself. With every character carefully crafted, the author describes a wild ride in rural Northern Michigan. This is a very fast read dealing with issues of parental abandonment, alcohol and drug abuse, firearms and a baby thrown in for good measure. You think you know how it will end, but then you know you won't. I was surprised to find out that this was a debut novel, but I will certainly recommend this to readers of fast paced adventure. Beautifully done. I hope to hear more from Mr. Mulhauser.
