The Alchemist's Flame (The Final Formula Series, Book 3) by Becca Andre

Now that the local hospital is using her burn salve, master alchemist Addie Daulton has become a celebrity. The positive press will go a long way in helping her redeem alchemy’s reputation, but Addie wishes the media would stop calling her the Flame Lord’s alchemist. She doesn’t need his sanction to validate her skills. Besides, having the name of the city’s premier Element tied to hers makes it hard to carry out her clandestine activities—like spying on the leader of the necromancer community. If she’s not careful, she could kick off a war between Old Magic and New.

The risk proves worth it when she discovers that her former colleague and current nemesis, Neil Dunstan, is working with the Deacon himself. If that wasn’t bad enough, she learns that Neil has resurrected a grim and made it his own. A grim that once destroyed a family of Elements. And this month, every Element in the world is gathering right here in Cincinnati.

With the date of the gathering fast approaching, Addie must figure out what Neil plans to do and stop him, or Old Magic will win the war before it even begins.

About the Author

Becca Andre lives in southern Ohio with her husband, two children, and an elderly Jack Russell Terrier. A love of science and math (yes, she’s weird like that), led to a career as a chemist where she blows things up far more infrequently than you’d expect. Other interests include: chocolate, hard rock, and slaying things on the Xbox. She also finds writing about herself in third person a bit strange.

Another excellent installment. I have rarely read a series of books I have enjoyed as much as the FINAL FORMULA COLLECTION. The characters are fascinating and well-defined, and the world they inhabit is rich, fully formed, engrossing and believable. The plotlines move along quickly and are gripping. I love these books and highly recommend them to anyone. They are well-crafted gems, and are at the head of my latest list of favorite books. I will not describe the storyline or contents. The reader deserves the experience of discovering them as unfolded by this most excellent author. Thank you, Becca Andre, for hours of enjoyable reading!

I've read and reread this series so many times, and it never gets old! This is a great read, even if you're squeamish like I am.

In this third full-length installment of the Final Formula series, Addie is finally seeing some respect for her alchemy skills and slowly regaining the trust of the Elementals--including her former lover, Rowan, the Flame Lord. But she also has an old debt to settle with her partner in alchemy. But helping Ian leads to the discovery of bad blood, old family feuds, and resentment within the necromancer community. While trying to unravel the mystery of Ian's ancestors/descendants, the possibility of a mass execution of the world's element community, and a new grim on the loose, Addie soon realizes that she's in deeper than she expected. Her relationship with Rowan rekindles (hee, I had too!) which leads Addie back to love, but comes with some very real challenges. Tautly written, with hot romance and an inventive urban fantasy world, this is a great addition to the series.
