An inexplicable pregnancy...

Lisa M. Lilly's heart pounding supernatural thriller, The Awakening, tells the story of one young woman who finds her life at risk over a phenomenon she cannot understand.

Tara Spencer is at a loss. She recently learned she is pregnant, despite never having had sex. Her fiancé breaks up with her, convinced she cheated on him, her plans for medical school are derailed, and even her parents and best friend doubt her story.

A powerful cult...

Only a stranger, Cyril Woods, claims to believe that Tara is still a virgin. A member of The Brotherhood religious order, Cyril tells her the child is a possible new messiah. But when prenatal tests reveal shocking information, The Brotherhood, fearing Tara will trigger an Apocalypse, becomes her enemy.

As the forces aligned against her close in, Tara fights for her life, seeking a safe place to give birth and the answer to one question:

Are she and her child meant to save the world or destroy it?

Kirkus Indie
...this light read is also a brainy one, asking readers to reconsider fundamental societal truths. The fast-paced story derives suspense from the questions it poses regarding feminism, origins and religion, culminating with a sudden end that presents new questions, which Lilly's sequel should answer.

Sharp and satisfying.

The pacing in The Awakening speeds along in exactly the way a taut thriller should, i.e. at a breakneck pace. As soon as Tara confirms her pregnancy, things start happening around her, and she is constantly having to maneuver herself from one danger to the next, all while trying to figure out what is really happening to her....the suspense and mystery stay strong for the whole ride....an intelligent work that entertains while making the reader think....

I read The Awakening on the train ride home from a recent trip to Chicago. I didn't get much rest as I couldn't put it down until the end. There must be a sequel as I am hooked. I would highly recommend reading this book to anyone and everyone that enjoys a good mystery that uniquely forces the reader to ponder some key religious concepts.

A good story is only as strong as its characters and the characters in this book more than deliver. Looking forward to reading the next one!

Wonderful series!! I've read the first three and cannot WAIT for the last one. Really love the action and the wonderful religious/spiritual quandries that these books pose.

I liked it until Cyril turned on her in Armenia and after that. I understand how it advanced the plot but Cyril's rejection of Tara didn't feel authentic. It didn't feel like something he would have done in that way. Adding more meat to the break he made, more of an evolving break than the complete 180 he does would have made this more believable. I didn't care for the way the serpent vision played out either. Sorry but those were my impressions. A good editor could have helped flesh this out.

Wonderful Book! It's a complex story with lots of bad guys or are they? And are any of the good guys actually bad guys? Tara doesn't know who to believe. It was so good, I had to get book 2.

This book was just ok, very slow, you don't really get attached to the characters and the timeline is hard to follow, one day she is here and by next chapter 6 months has gone by. Author does not go into detail to much, very simple writing. Didn't bother to follow the story and purchase the second book.
