This is book 7 in the School of Gallantry series. Therese Angelique Bouchard has dreamed of becoming an actress for as long as she can remember. Finally having enough of taking care of her ever enlarging family, she takes off to Paris to make a name for herself. Meeting Gerard Antoine Tolbert along the way changes her life forever. Gerard, the last remaining heir to the Duke of Andelot is fighting for his life and for his beliefs. During a time when the aristocracy is being murdered just for being themselves, he is trying to save as many people as he can. When he stumbles across Angelique, he sees a way to use her position in society to help his cause. Neither imagined that through all of this, they would fall in love. Can their love endure all that they are put through and last the test of time? I'm sure you have been waiting to hear Madame de Maitenon's story just as long as I have. This story had a much different feel to it than the other stories in the series because it had so much history incorporated into it, so be forewarned. It did take me some time to warm up to the story because it was so different from what I am use to from Marvelle. I did enjoy reading what had happened to Angelique that led her to England and setting up her School of Gallantry. As stated above, it did take me some time to warm up to the story. It seems to drag along at the beginning and I really didn't like the characters too much. Angelique seemed so immature and Gerard just wasn't doing it for me. But loving Marvelle's work, I pushed on. They did grow on me as the story progressed and I started to become invested in their story. I think it was really the ending that I wanted to get to. I knew that Marvelle would have them eventually reunite sometime after the School of Gallantry was started. The ending is what saved the book for me. I loved seeing the reunion after so many years apart. This is the end of the series and I did really enjoy it. Marvelle's next series titled The Whipping Society. I don't know if it is for me, but I will at least read the first book in the series to find out. Thanks go out to Delilah Marvelle for a copy of the book in exchange of an honest review.

What a story! Gerard and Therese have such an amazing love story which weaves the French Revolution, mystery, and heartbreak into it. The two meet in the most interesting of ways and fall into one another under almost laughable reasons. They go to Paris together and from there Therese makes a name for herself acting while having Gerard financially and emotionally dote on her. They have quite the unique relationship.  The story comes to the climax when Therese must make the most painful decision of her life in order to protect Gerard. The story continues until the two have a happy ending I wasn't sure would come! The writing is so vivid and beautiful that Delilah Marvelle has gained a new fan! The story is written fabulously, the characters and story develop, and there's a happy ending. I'm beyond glad I could read this and believe everyone who does will love it as much as I did.

This book was so well written. It was nice to read the back story of some of the artiocrats who didn't try to fleece the poor in France during the revolution. But to have love and the thought of losing your life. The Duke would do anything to save the King but he felt he needed to help other innocent people flee from France but he fell in love with a young woman he met on the road into Paris, he being a Butchers daughter. The times they went through to come to a wonderful end

Thérèse and Gérard meet by chance. She's a butcher's daughter who is on her way to Paris to become an actress. He's an aristocrat determined to save his godfather, the King. Their attraction is seductive and powerful and they become lovers. As the French Revolution takes over the country, Thérèse agrees to spy for him. Now begins their dangerous journey through a country that is filled with death and destruction. I love these memorable characters. Thérèse is an intelligent and outspoken woman. She is taking a chance trying to help Gérard. One misstep could result in her death and his. The Duke of Andelot is a true hero. He's kind and generous but very autocratic. He is rich and powerful and can have anything he wants except the woman he loves. Their story broke my heart. The verbal sparring highlighted the constant fire between them. I found the portrayal of Citoyen de Sade interesting. Delilah Marvelle gave him touches of humanity rather than the usual unrelenting evil. I love the School of Gallantry. I wanted to know its beginnings. Now I do and to me this book is a pulse pounding read.

At first I didn't think this book would be good since the last 2 left me disappointed but I must say this was enjoyable. The beginning starts off slow and you think that Therese is an idiot and Gerard a cocky hero but as the story goes on you see them grow and have a new respect for them. I won't go into detail but if you can get through the first few chapters the story does get better. The love scenes are a bit mild and could be better but the story makes up for it. FYI, if you are one of those readers who is sensitive to extensive cursing, this is not for you...but if it's not a bother you will enjoy this book.

*I received this ARC via Netgallery* Delilah Marvelle's grand finale in her School of Gallantry Series was a triumphant ending to an exceptional series. Meticulously detailed and full of heartfelt passion The Duke of Andelot is a work not to be missed. Any author that can show a human side to the Marquis de Sade and make him almost likable gets a thumbs up from me! Take the time to read this book you will not be disappointed.

The story of Madam de Maitenon is finally revealed, it begins during the French Revolution where she is running away to Paris to escape an unwanted marriage. On the way she runs into Gerard, a man/boy on a mission to rescue his godfather the King. This story draws you in from the beginning and doesn’t let go. It is an emotional and entertaining read, I couldn’t put it down. This was an enjoyable series and it ended with a big finish. Excellent Read!
