This book will long remain on my its of all-time favorites for the insight, information, intelligence and ability to clearly and systematically advocate a return to our innate human ability to first heal and then maintain a state of balanced health and happiness. There are innumerable things I like about this book from the beautiful way the author writes and describes her own life experience to the way she talks about the health conditions that the majority of people are confronted with in today's society, based on the "technological" effects of the "device-driven" world. These are real problems that must be addressed--things like "device addiction," as she terms it. She comes from a core understanding of what I consider the fundamentals of life: balance and working with nature to live as we were intended to. She cautions us about the impact that technology is having on us and the habits we have recently developed because of the communication devices that are now part of everyday life. These habits are pulling us away from our humanity. Most importantly, she does not just make claims, but she backs her statements up with studies that document these conditions. A true blend of science and wisdom. Having read and researched he alt and nutrition and longevity for over 40 years, I believe that this book is on the cutting edge and that we would do well to read it and follow her advice to restore ourselves to our true humanity. We are designed to heal ourselves, and this book gives guidance and hope. It is engaging and transformative, and I encourage you to make it a part of your library if you seek to be your happiest and most heathy self -- free from the negative influences that dominate most of our thinking about what is possible in terms of a good quality lifestyle, with abundant energy and creativity...and, ultimately, inner peace. I especially like what she has to say about Movement as Medicine, Posture and Self Esteem, the truth about "Nourishment," Breath, Free Will, and the Power of Relaxation. Truly, in the mere process of reading this book, I felt my entire system calm down, reenergize, and become empowered in remembering the simple truths about life. I have made changes to my diet and have adopted several new habits, based on the author's suggestions. Prime among these are: getting outside in SUNSHINE and putting my hands and feet smack dab on MOTHER EARTH every day! If you want to be healthy and happy -- learn the ruth about how you can do this simply and mindfully -- get this book! I was fully absorbed as I read it, and I thank the author for providing so much information and organizing it so well (like the summary points at the end of each chapter). I couldn't put it down once I got started! Chock full of sound advice to support anyone looking to maintain or improve their health. The author presents her ideas in a way that empowers the reader to decide what information resonates for them, without forcing it upon you. Completely engaging and informative!!
I am enjoying this read! My sister gave it to me because I am trying to get healthier and I am struggling with finding time for myself. I had my second child about a year ago and self care has gone out the window. I am ready to start taking better care of myself and this book feels like a friend to me. I love the suggestions and the gentle and allowing way this author shares what helped her get healthy and strong. I learned some things through reading this book about what I thought were healthy foods, and really they are not. I sort of knew it..I felt bloated after I eat certain things and this book has given me permission to trust my body, and listen to my body and maybe respond in ways that will help me make better choices. I think this will be a book that I refer back to again and again for inspiration, like a trusted friend. I love the way it was written it is easy to follow and the suggestions the author makes seem do able. Small steps do add up. Do yourself a favor and get this book! Read it and share with your friends and family
