About the Author

Camille Di Maio has always dreamed of being a writer and has had pieces published in various regional and parenting magazines. When she’s not delaying sleep in favor of reading “just one more chapter” of a great book, she and her husband homeschool their four children and run a real estate office in San Antonio, Texas. Camille also regularly faces her fear of flying to indulge her passion for travel. She is inspired by the concept of “sucking the marrow out of life” and, to that end, trains in tae kwon do, buys too many baked goods at farmers’ markets, and unashamedly belts out Broadway show tunes when the moment strikes. The Memory of Us is her debut novel.

Julianne is a young woman with the whole world before her when hidden family secrets, in the form of an unknown sibling, shatter her vision of her perfect life. War is on the brink when she meets Kyle, a young man that is trying to become a priest. This means their relationship can never become more. It's up to Julianne to decide on what path to follow for her future. There is always the easy way, but sometimes the harder path is what is most desired by the heart. The path they follow is burdened with love, heartache, and war. No matter what, their lives will never be the same. This is my first book by Camille Di Maio, and I am so glad I came across such an excellent author. This book was exceptionally written. Julianne is a beautiful character with a heart of gold. Her brother who is hidden away in a home is an excellent character in this story, and he is what brings Julianne and Kyle together, so for that alone, I loved his innocent soul. The romance that these two share is beautiful and real. The hardships these two choose to face to be together are amazing. This book was a right mix of hardships and happy times, secrets and regrets, romance and lost love and at the brink, a war that will change the lives of all. I loved this story. It has history, romance, and drama. It is written in a way that keeps you enthralled and full of emotions. I felt mad, sad, and happy while reading this story. A book that invokes such feelings is a great one in my opinion. Overall, I was pleased and so glad that I came across this author. I can't wait to read more from her.

Check out the full review at Kritters Ramblings An epic love story that with war pending made the book seem even more heavy than your typical love story. Julianne finds that she is a twin and her twin brother has been put in a home as he is "different." Julianne has been raised with a father who has a fairly negative opinion about Catholics so when she is visiting her brother behind her parents' back and meets a man that is Catholic and pursuing to be a priest - Julianne's world is turned upside down. Sometimes it is just nice to curl up with an epic love story and this one hit the spot. I loved Julianne as a character and enjoyed reading the conflict she had between pleasing her parents and becoming an adult and going her own way.

This is one of the best books that I have read this year! It fills you with a multitude of emotions. I laughed and I cried, I got angry and I was sad. This is what a great book does, it makes you feel. I became immersed in this book. I felt a part of the story. The characters are richly developed and likable. There was one part where I got so angry at Julianne, though, it was a moment of vanity when she makes what I felt was a selfish decision. I don't want to give away the plot though. This story is vividly descriptive. You will feel as if you are there. It flows effortlessly throughout and covers over a 20 year span. It is filled with love and heartache. It was at times heart wrenching and at other times heartwarming. You will love this book and find it hard to put down. You will definitely cry. I was crying like a baby by the end. It is so hard to believe that this is a debut novel. Camille DiMaio is a talented author and I can't wait to read another book by her. This is great historical fiction! Do not miss out on this amazing book. I highly recommend it to those who love historical fiction and to those who don't. This is a great book! It will remain with me for a very long time. I received an ARC of this book for review. Thank you , Camille, for a wonderful read.
