I don't like to compare novels but it's hard not to compare this novel to it's predecessor, Pretty Little Liars. Sara has unknowingly pinned herself as the queen of YA mystery, every book after it has somehow managed to blurb her novel as a comparative book, so it's likely that this book would be compared to the series. With that being said, here we go, The Perfectionists is a shiny new version of Pretty Little Liars. It has the same format, pretty girls, mysterious murderer/stalker, and a nerve wracking amount of open-ended, unanswered questions. Yes, ladies and gentleman, you will get no resolution to the mystery whatsoever. It is true to it's Shepard fashion. Like Pretty Little Liars, the novel centers around a group of girls with a ton of secrets, and twisty mysterious pasts. Unlike Pretty Little Liars although, these girls lives seem a little bit more dark, a little bit more dramatic--at least for some of the girls. There is high school drama, but I never found it too angst-y, or childish like it could have possibly been. I did find myself following along and feeling that edge of your seat nervousness but, I should have known that I would not get the answers I was seeking. Be forewarned, there is a mother of a cliffhanger, meaning there are no tied ends. Those suckers are loose and flailing and probably will do so until the series is complete. My only hope is that I (we) don't have to weed through 20 or so novels before the mystery is solved. The romance, because of course there is some, was a tricky, tricky thing. The relationships I thought were solid and true turned out to be a lie. The mushy moments turned brutal and the characters were flailing through life, school, and love. I think I liked this about the book the most. You never knew who you could trust. And, even when you thought you knew, you were wrong. That being said, I really enjoyed the novel. It did keep me intrigued and I do have a strong desire to continue the series. I'm definitely interested in finding out what happens next. My only comment is this if you are a strong and devoted fan/follower of Pretty Little Liars--you'll more likely than not love this novel. If you were so-so about it and completely up in arms about the number of books in that series, or the unrelenting unanswered questions--this book might tick you off in it's likeness, or it's potential to make you feel the same way you did reading, PLL. I suggest you be prepared for the similarities and enjoy it's differences. I've only read two and a half of the Pretty Little Liars novels, I started with the show--but I think I might like this one more. Enjoy, darlings.

Thia book was a good read but felt way too similar to Pretty Little Liars. I really hope that Sara doesn't create the rest of the stories in this series in PLL fashion of being unnecessarily long and drawn out.

(Source: I received a digital copy of this book for free on a read-to-review basis. Thanks to HarperCollins and Edelweiss.) Ava, Caitlin, Mackenzie, Julie, and Parker all have reason to hate Nolan Hotchkiss, who has wronged every one of them in some way. But when he turns up dead, they are all suddenly suspects, even if they know they didn’t kill him. Who killed Nolan? And is someone trying to frame the girls for murder? This was an enjoyable story, and it was quite reminiscent of ‘Pretty Little Liars’. I liked the characters in this book, even if they made some misguided decisions! I felt really sorry for Caitlin over what had happened to her brother, and what Nolan did to Ava was so mean! Parker seriously had cause for complaint when it came to Nolan, and Mac had also been mistreated by him. The girls did make some poor decisions at times though (they obviously haven’t read the pretty little liars series), and seemed to just get in more and more trouble as the book went along! The storyline in this was good, and I did enjoy this book. It was quite reminiscent of ‘Pretty Little Liars’, but it wasn’t exactly the same. I did initially find it a bit difficult to keep up with so many different characters, but after a while I got them all straight in my head. I liked the little twists, and at times I even liked the stupid things that the girls did, it certainly livened the story up! The mystery element definitely kept me turning the pages, and I loved the uncertainly over the girls personal lives as well. There was some romance, but with 5 girls, not to mention their respective boyfriends and love interests, there were at least 2 love triangles happening in this book! The ending to this didn’t really clear much up. Very little was resolved, and we were left with more than one cliff-hanger. I did enjoy this book though, and I really want to read the next book in the series now! Overall; an enjoyable and addictive mystery story, 8 out of 10

I enjoyed the Perfectionist very much. I loved how the thriller mystery had me at the edge of my seat at times, and the whole time I was curious about all the unanswered questions the book left me with. I think this book’s audience is intended to be teens because it is set in high school and In the town of Beacon Heights, Washington, everyone feels the need to be perfect and better than everyone else. One day, four girls in a film study class who thought they had nothing in common, found out that they all shared a hatred for the richest and most popular guy in school, Nolan Hotchkiss. They all had credible reasons for abhorring him, like Parker, who used to be best friends with Nolan until he slipped Oxy in her drink without telling her, and he had done other horrible things to all of them. During that class they brought up the hypothetical question of,” How would you do it? If you were going to kill him?” Caitlyn responded “Oxy. Everyone knows it’s his drug of choice.” Just a few weeks later, they were all at the biggest and coolest party of the year that Nolan was hosting, and they had come up with a plan to prank him as revenge for all the horrible things he had done to each one of them. They took him upstairs and put Oxy in his drink and Sharpied all over his face. Five days later, everyone was talking about his death and people were saying that they found out he allegedly overdosed on Oxy. Parker, Caitlyn, Julie, and Mackenzie knew they hadn’t killed him because they hadn’t given him that much, but even though they believed he deserved what he got, guilt hung over their heads as the police pursued their investigation. Just thinking about that day and their conversation in class made them sick. The burning question of who did it and why also lingered. The well-known author Sara Shepard has written other novels similar to this one, like Pretty Little Liars, but I enjoyed this one just as much as those books, but it wasn’t too similar to that series in my opinion. If you were a fan of the Pretty Little Liars series than you will definitely fall in love with this one as well, with all its mysterious secrets and scandals Overall I loved the novel with the friendship aspects as well as the mystery and I definitely recommend you read the Perfectionists.

I got hooked immediately and finished it in two days. Of course, it ended in a cliff hanger. Can't wait to read the sequel.

{Ages 12-18} This book is a edge-of-your-seat murder mystery and a high school drama realistic fiction all wrapped up into one amazing novel. If you liked the Pretty Little Liars series, you will love this one! Also, the sequel to this ( The Good Girls ) is now available. Enjoy!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book but I am hoping she doesn't drag this series out like she did/is continuing to do with the PLL series. The characters' secrets are different from the secrets in PLL. There are lots of similarities between the two books and you can see a bit of Aria, Spencer, Hannah, and Emily in each of them. If you enjoy Sara Shepard's writing and her other works then read this.

I enjoyed reading this very much. It is a similar format to PLL but that doesn't mean it isn't awesome. I am so excited for the next one to come out! If you love PLL you will really enjoy this series too.
