It was not the same quality of previous works. It was predictable. However it wasn't a bad book if you are just looking for a happily ever after.

## BAD. **SPOILERS BELOW** First of all, the start was SLOW. The "set up" was way too long. Too much useless information. So inconsequential. 2nd, the book itself was too long. Too much back and forth with the hero and heroine. Speaking of the heroine, I couldn't stand her. She was supposed to be so smart and independent. HA. What a joke! Flitting from party to party, never without a glass of champagne in her hand. And the hero was no picnic. SPOILER: He won't tell her ANYTHING. She tries to get to know him because they ARE sleeping together, but to no avail. He's hiding something big. Even after he tells her he loves her and asks her to marry him, he still says: I'm not ready to tell you! What a crock. I would've kicked this guy to the curb. She finds out that he is married and has a kid. She gave him so many opportunities to tell her but "it's none of your business" seems to be his MO. Another thing that was ridiculous were the amount of women drooling over this guy. Every scene, every situation, there were women on him. They all wanted him. So over the top! Annoying as hell. Eight dollars? Really? What a waste of money, but more importantly, my time. SKIP THIS ONE. I wish I had.

Another brilliant read from JEM and yet another perfect man who's name starts with the letter J. A few firsts this time around we get the first ever standalone and the first dual POV from this author. Jake stole my heart and I found myself second guessing throughout the book but I never guessed how this book was going to end ! I have to admit I struggled with Camille it took some time and a few chapters for me to get to like her but I'm guessing that's how this story was meant to be. As always the characters are strong and the chemistry is full of heat. This book is full of drama and secrets but it's also funny in parts and if you have read other books by JEM you will understand what I mean when I say it feels like it's been written from the heart. For me the pace of this story was perfect and Jake is the perfect man what more is left to say apart from I loved it. I was given a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley for an honest review

So, Jake is a total alpha (wiggles eyebrows). I honestly wasn’t so sure how much I was going to like him at first. He had some issues, but they were actually not at all what I thought they were. I jumped to conclusions before finding out the full truth. It’s a doozy. By the time the story was over, I was begging Jake to please come and take me. He’s ‘all that’ and more (licking him in my mind right now). Camile and Jake are a super couple. He’s a six foot four rock solid ex soldier. She’s the daughter of one of the wealthiest men in England and a model. He was hired to protect her, but the dangers aren’t exactly easily pinned down. I enjoyed The Protector. It has action, mystery and loads of sexy.

I have been looking forward to reading this new book by Ms. Malpas ever since she announced it. Firstly, you cannot go into reading this book thinking that it will be similar in style to her previous series. This is nothing like it and is in fact a stand-alone. The Protector is a departure from her normal writing style in that it is told in dual POV’s. Both of the main characters backgrounds and their thoughts are divulged to a greater degree than previous characters which assists the reader in understanding how they have both gotten to their current positions in life. As with previous books by Ms. Malpas I found this one to be well written and interesting. The characters were well rounded and I found myself at times laughing at the banter between Jake Sharp and Camille Logan. Jake is a bad boy, ex-military and a man not to be taken lightly; add in a pairing with misunderstood Camille and there are sure to be fireworks. When Camille’s life is put in danger, Jake is hired to be her bodyguard, a job if he is honest he doesn’t really want. However he soon falls for the beauty of Camille, there is so much more to her than just her outward beauty and here is where Jodi Ellen Malpas weaves her magic. I have to say I really liked both Jake and Camille and I really wanted them to get their happily ever after. What happens when their pasts come back to haunt them tough? Can they escape the past and make a future together? I enjoyed the storyline although at times I felt that it dragged out more than was required, however having said that the ending was absolutely spot on. I look forward to reading more from Jodi Ellen Malpas in the not too distant future.

I loved Jesses’ stories maybe better due to knowing the characters longer? I don’t know. I’m glad I waited for a gift card to purchase very expensive books and just didn’t hit the mark for me.

Jake and Camille are two souls who have been damaged by people from their past. A love story that is smoking hot with some suspense and beautifully written, I absolutely love Jodi’s attention to detail and the way she’s draws you into the story.

THE PROTECTOR is an exciting story filled with suspense, forbidden love, a tortured hero and a feisty heroine. Jack is a complex man. He is a dark and dangerous, alpha male tormented from the war and suffering from PTSD and having a difficult time coping with life. Jack takes a job as Camille Logan's bodyguard against his better judgement. He has no interest in spending time protecting a rich, spoiled brat, but he needs to get out of his head. So he agrees to take the job because he knows working is better than drinking too much and and hooking up with anonymous women. Camille is the youngest daughter of a businessman who has achieved his success by any means possible and he has few morals and many enemies. Jack has a preconceived opinion about Camille before he meets her and is surprised to find a completely different woman from what he anticipated. Jack admires Camille and is also attracted to her. Camille is opinionated and headstrong and not afraid to tell Jack what is on her mind. Jack has to keep reminding himself to concentrate on his job, not Camille but he finds it hard to resist her. I really enjoyed this fast paced, intriguing romance, it kept me on the edge of my seat as I tried to figure out who was trying to hurt Camille. I enjoyed the first half of the book the most. The first half kept me riveted, but I didn't think the second half of the book was as enthralling and it was a little too predicable. Jack and Camille are likeable characters and they have a lot of chemistry zinging between them. They both hide who they really are behind a protective shield. Jack falls for Camille as he struggles to figure out who is out to hurt her. He is constantly on guard as he tries to uncover secrets and understand why people want to keep him away from Camille. If you like protective, alpha males and spunky heroines along with romance and suspense, you will enjoy this one. I was given an advanced copy of this book to write an honest review for Netgalley and Cocktails and Books.

If you are a sucker for love, a hopeless romantic, or simply lacking a love life. Try this book out. This was a great first read if anyone wants to give romance novels a shot. Sort of like an entry level. The storyline is good. The details. The authors writing style makes for an easy, fun, and fast read. Love it!

I was hooked immediately. The way the author writes, spilling thoughts of characters quickly, not rambling on.

What a fantastic read, from beginning to end! I laughed, I cringed, I lusted, I gasped, and I cried...I cannot think of another book that has taken me on quite a rollercoaster like this one.

I loved how the attraction was instant and they both tried to fight their feelings but they were too strong.

(3.5 stars) To say Cami is not pleased when Jake is hired to be her bodyguard is an understatement. She really gives Jake a run for his money and their interactions early are quite hysterical. I did think it took a bit long to reveal Jake’s past. I thought it was a bit lackluster for all the buildup but then when the twist hits it propels the story forward. The ending was very sweet. The story is strong and steady, definitely worth a read but it just didn’t blow me away.

Jodi Ellen Malpas has done it again. She's made me fall in love! I did not want to put this book down!! I knew as soon as I started reading it that I was going to love it. Jake and Camille are lovable characters. They both have their own personality and they're both strong-willed people. I just adore Camille. She works hard for herself even though she has a dad who would give her the world if she asked for it. Unless that world consisted of Jake. Even though he hired Jake to protect Camille from possible threats, he didn't want her near him. He definitely didn't want them to end up together. The only thing that was aggravating was it took so long to get the action parts! But that's completely okay. The super adorable parts make up for it in the end :) I don't think there will ever be a book by Jodi that I won't like!!
