Overview

Starship Repair and Society Manners

Starship engineer Anailu Xindar dreamed of owning her own ship, but she didn't find the courage to actually go for it until she was forced out of her safe, comfortable job. She goes shopping for a cheap, practical freighter, but she ends up buying a rare, beautiful, but crippled luxury ship. Getting it into space will take more than her technical skills. She'll have to go way outside her comfort zone to brave the dangers of safaris, formal dinners, a rude professor, and worst of all, a fashion designer. She may even have to make some friends... and enemies.
"The Sculpted Ship" is set on the outskirts of an interstellar empire where FTL travel is commonplace but intelligent robots are rare and expensive. Though the Iris Empire has stood for a thousand years, a talented individual can find plenty of opportunity. But the nobility of this empire guards its privileges jealously.

I really liked this book. The characters, not just the main one, but all of them. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was typos and editing. They can annoy me so badly that I just quit reading, but this book was worth continuing. It's the story of a woman who goes from being an engineer on a large crew vessel to buying and captaining her own small ship. The journey she makes, the obstacles she encounters, all make for a wonderful story. I can't wait for the next book, and hope that there will be many more.

Lately I’ve read more mysteries than SF, but this book may bring me back. Loved the people, the SHIP, and the possibilities for her future. Will there be more?

I really enjoyed the characters, plot, & setting, but the poor editing/proofing was jarring enough to pull me out of the story. I want to read the next installment, but if the publishing quality doesn't improve, it'll be my last time supporting the author.

Very imaginative, excellent characters, and just enough going on to make you want more. Anailu Xindar is an intriguing character who makes you root for her, and the antagonists root against, even while wondering just where they came from, and why. I'm eagerly awaiting the next installment.

Exciting story line that screams series with several possible directions to develop. Like to see romantic entanglement with covert naval operative to battle rogue core elements.

Not quite the worst novel I’ve ever read on nook. Close though. At ninety nine cents I feel over charged.

Anailu Xindar is happy to be an engineer on a commercial shipping vessel. Her dream since childhood is to fly her own ship. Sometimes, we must be pushed to reach for our dreams. When Anailu is left without a job on an outer rim planet, she takes a chance to reach for the skies. Funds are low and her prospects for a decent ship are limited, but when she comes across a rare find, she brokers a deal that will not only test her mechanical abilities, but her resolve to see her dreams come true. From the first chapter, Anailu is a competent engineer who tends to be a loner. When she discovers the Dove class ship with major issues and more than a few mysteries, she must learn to make friends and trust others if she hopes to have it fly beyond the planet. The author does a good job of bringing the reader to root for Anailu, but I found the need for additional editing distracting. Not enough to keep me from finishing, but I’d be disingenuous if I didn’t mention the need. Still a page turner and left me wanting book two to be done now.
