At last, someone has sifted through the overwhelming amount of information out there about best practices for a healthy body and mind - distilling it into truly basic steps. I’m a bit of a nutrition nerd myself and found the author’s advice practical and sound - but I still learned a lot of new things that I’m excited to put into practice! A lot of it is common sense but it’s all about how the book is put together and how the information is explained. It’s easy to read and understand - without being too basic - and most importantly, easy to remember and actually use. There’s also a deceptively simple practice for processing emotions and stress (dubbed “the Method”) that I think could help a lot of people who would normally shy away from inner work. Highly recommended!

I give thanks for this book! The book is full of useful health information for those of us who need some reminders about how to stay on track for more healthy and joyful living. Clearly Marlene Veltre has done her research (as a result of her own health challenges) and shares her findings with her readers in a very understandable and readable way. One can tell that she is genuinely interested in getting valuable health information out to us readers, in addition to providing many ideas to feel and look our best. I appreciated her positive attitude present throughout the book, like a good friend who really wants the best for you. She is very good at explaining how our systems function and makes the connections between why we might not be feeling or looking so great, but more importantly what we can do to reverse what’s not working inside and out. A lot of practical information for keeping one’s self healthy and for those who want to go deeper good information about detoxing. Veltre is very consistent about reinforcing things and making sensible suggestions that are essential for good health throughout the book, like eating leafy greens, hydration, sleep, stress reduction and avoiding process foods, just to name a few… Overall, it is a great resource, I am so happy this it is now available in hard copy!

I enjoyed this book very much. It seems like every month there is new documentary on what we should and should not consume. Science, media and popular thought is ever changing and confusing. This book cuts through the jargon with logical and common sense advice that reminds us how marvelous the human body is and we should give it the best opportunity to do well for us. It's well structured, easy to read and each chapter follows a logical format so you don't get lost in the details.

7 Basics for Simple Health is a pure joy to read. I’ve read many health-related books and publications over the years, being in the fitness industry, and when I found Marlene Veltre’s book, I was thrilled to find a solid source for overall wellness which distills a vast amount of well-researched information into bite-size chunks anyone can apply to daily living. Marlene Veltre’s book is one of the best all around health resources I’ve found on the market today. After reading the entire book, I still re-read specific chapters because there is so much sound wisdom to remind oneself about positive lifestyle choices to practice on a daily basis. This book is well-written and easy to follow; it is one of the top resources I now refer my clients to, whether they want to make a profound change in overall health, or are working through a chronic illness or as a person in already good health wanting to elevate to an even higher level of wellness. If there is one book you read for your health and wellness this year make it 7 Basics for Simple Health!

Chapter 7. Feel Good is what we all need for self-help therapy on-the-go. Out of sorts? Can't quite name it? Re-read this chapter again and again to get back into the moment. Especially page 201 to 223 which contain pithy reminders for regaining balance. Truly a handbook for living well and learning basic, sound techniques for how to be responsible for feeling good.

If you only have time for just one book on life enhancement and emotional relief, this is the one. There are so many easy-to-understand, clearly written sections that address all the main aspects of human health, that I keep it on my bedside table quick reminders. The way it is organized into highlighted sections makes for easy, well-organized access to the material. I'm a retired family psychologist and still people I know come to me for help now and then, and I prescribe this book to them. Veltre's "Method" is simply written and straightforward, thus easy to practice. Like a bible of basic health, especially Chap. 7, this book is a handy reference guide for about any occasion regarding the need for basic information on health: mind, heart. body and soul. A MUST for any library on health! Rita Hart, M.S., MFT
