While reading this book I felt: anger, sadness, fear, love, grief and everything was so damn touching. It was super easy to become attached to the characters, to love them, to hate the ones that wronged them. If you want a very well written story that doesn't pull any punches, this is the one for you. It has happened, the zombie apocalypse that everyone has feared. The disease spreads rapidly covering the sufferers in blisters while blood seeps from their bodies until they die only to rise as a rotting monster with the sole purpose of devouring human flesh. Two best friends, Leisel and Evelyn, have seen so many die this way. They are just two decent girls trying to find a place to survive in this new world, a world where the cruel prey on the weak and women are property. There were only so many times a person could be beat down, again and again and again, before they broke entirely. Thicker Than Blood has a full action-packed storyline with an 'out of the frying pan and into the fire' mentality. Through it all, we see Evelyn and Leisel constantly supporting each other. When she stumbled, I stumbled; when she fell, I fell. We were in this together; she was all I had left. They do happen upon good people occasionally. Two great men are Alex and Jami. I instantly fell in love with them both. In a time when a woman's fate is determine by the whim of the man possessing her, finding honorable men becomes a rarity. Both Alex and Jami are gems. ♥ I could not put this book down (I actually stayed up all night reading and didn't shower the next day so that I didn't have to take my eyes off it). The plot is realistic to how the story would evolve if true. The reader is not babied. At the same time, the story does resonate with the readers humanity. It isn't straight up horror, but it isn't a fairytale either. The pain, the suffering, the struggle, it was never ending, much like the barrage of bullets I'd put into that man the night before, like the number of times I'd driven that blade into Lawrence's body, like the amount of tears I'd shed. But through it all there is love and promise which can give a person strength like nothing else can. "I love you, Lei." "I love you too, Eve." "Promise?" "Promise." "Always." If you're looking for erotica or romance this isn't for you. If you want something with a bit blood and gore that pulls your heartstrings, Thicker Than Blood is a must read.

As I began reading, I felt the author was trying too hard. Every bad thing that could possibly happen was visited upon the protagonists. However, as I became attached to the characters, I didn't care that the storyline was a little over the top. Very fast-paced, well written, and had me in an emotional turmoil at the end. That rarely happens. I highly recommend this book. I purchased the next book in the series the moment I finished this one, and I hope to be an emotional wreck at the end of that one as well.

Lei and Eve weren't always best friends. In fact, Lei wasn't too happy when her husband's best friend married a woman too easy for Lei's taste. But as they got to know each other, they bonded in a way that surpassed their expectations. After a couple years of bliss, a zombie apocalypse strikes and Lei and Eve are left to watch everyone and everything they hold dear succumb to the disaster. They end up in a "safe" zone where they are promptly sold to powerful men who care naught for their wishes or desires. Lei ends up with an abusive man and one day she has enough. Lei and Eve must brave the outside world in order to escape the gallows. They come upon another "safe" zone and soon have to decide which enemy is worse - the zombies or the humans that have survived. So, I really liked Eve. She is strong, saucy, and decisive. I really didn't like Lei. She is constantly playing the victim relying on her vulnerabilities in order to survive. I constantly felt like smacking her and telling her to save herself. That is an unfair statement, because when push comes to shove, she generally does. But that just makes it worse. She can save herself. She'd just rather someone else do it. Anyway, there are a couple scenes that were brutal and difficult to read for sexual content, but overall, it was a good zombie apocalypse book.

This is a wonderfully mastered zombie tale! These two authors are such great story tellers. The two main characters are a force to behold. I was hooked from the beginning! Hold on tight and enjoy the ride! Can't wait to read the next book beneath blood and bone!

So many great reviews. Strange how some books affect some while others can't even finish. This is a rare book I am giving up on. I am a little under half way through. I feel nothing for the main characters. The women's devotion to each other just seems contrived. I don't like the way they baby one character or the way she lets them or complains about being weak. She would be so annoying to have around in a crisis. I seldom put a book down mid book, but last night I realize that I just didn't care what happens (I assume they continue to wander around, encounter zombies, that two of the characters get together -- but it feels like it should be the women getting together the way they fuss over each other and not the man and one of the women. ) Maybe I will pick it up another time.

A great book that has left me talking it about it online for the last 5 days since I finished it. Lots to think about. Lots to discuss! Not my usual cup of tea, but it has certainly stuck with me!

6 EPIC STARS!!! Say what you want about the Zombie Apocalypse, but when it all hits the fan, I want to be on Madeline Sheehan & Claire C. Riley’s team! Also, they have officially made our list of Authors We Want to Get Drunk With. "When the world awoke again, it awoke with a rattling groan that promised only misery and loss" I am struggling to find the words to express how much I loved this book. It was compelling, exciting, gripping and so damn intense! I suffered a terrible book hangover which resulted in me stalking Claire C. Riley and purchasing several of her books. (Sorry Claire!) This is one writing team that I will read again and again. The authors’ ability to create such a vivid post-apocalyptic world was almost frightening. It was like there was a film of filth over everything. I was afraid of the beautiful landscapes as much as the ugly ones. I questioned everything they saw. When they entered a room, I was right there with them. And this begins with the blood on the first page. The Main focus of the story was Leisle and Evelyn's friendship; the ability to draw strength from each other and love each other through the worst of all scenarios. I was truly impressed with the complexity of the characters. They came right off the pages! I have rarely felt completely connected to a group of characters like I did with this book. I felt everything they felt and my heart never stopped racing. I ached for them as they struggled, mentally, physically and emotionally. As I read I could was sucked into their world and found myself questioning everything this new world had to offer right alongside of them. I really enjoyed how different Lei & Eve were and how they drew from each other's strength. "We simply survived." It's tough to decide which character I identified with the most. I felt bonded to them all. I couldn't stop wondering how I would handle each and every situation they faced. Alex was a strong man. He was honorable and clung to that with everything he had. Lei was soft and sweet in a world where that wouldn't survive. Eve and Lei had a friendship that was founded on happiness and fused through adversity. I loved the way they loved each other. They had a true sisterhood. "Always together, I promise." It would be difficult to talk about any moment in the book without revealing spoilers or just ruining the pace of the book for the next reader. There were so many moments I loved in this book because they made me FEEL. And I left a lot. I was terrified, sad, happy, concerned and anxious as all hell. I was overwhelmed by the emotions this book elicited. It took me forever to read this book. It was brutal. It was intense. To feel so attached to these people and then witness their journey was hell. But I couldn't look away. I had to know. I needed them to survive. To be OK. I needed each of them to feel some sense of peace. "The threat that lay behind closed doors, lurking in the shadows, was always far more deadly than the danger in plain sight." I am most surprised by the fact that I found myself caring about the adversaries as much as the heroes. There were a few characters I should have disliked or even hated that I wanted to know more about. I wanted their backstories. I wanted to know who they were before the infection. Before the world ended. The alternating POV was completely necessary with this story. With Eve and Lei being so different, I needed to know not only how each woman was feeling, but what they were each seeing. The writing in his book was phenomenal. It was flawless. I found the POVs most fascinating when the women were each in a similar situation but had very different experiences. It was pure genius. What was most fun about this book for me was being sucked in by the very first page and any questions that arose throughout the story were answered later. I never found myself confused or lost. I was just there. Among the filth and infected. Waiting for the next moment. I NEVER SAW THE ENDING COMING. I was shocked and then thrilled all at once. Part of what happened I was hoping for all along, but it was all a surprise. I was oddly at peace with how it ended. I loved this book from start to finish. I loved it and was scarred by it at the same time. 6 GIMME-MORE-NOW-STARS and pair it with homemade, backwoods moonshine!

Its been a long time since I've cried while reading, I mean I get emotionally invested in all my books but there are some books that are just a bit more special, this book was definitely one of them. A friendship like Eve's and Lei's is truly one of a kind. Theirs was something so sadly beautiful, to be so strong for one another, endure the love, the loss, the hurt, humiliation, pain, happiness, everything they did together, I would love to have someone/something like that in my life. To some it may seem it bit familiar to Sheehan's Holy Trinity series and some parts are vaguely similar but the majority of this book is unique all on its own. Its amazing reading about two completely different women who are bonded by such a strong friendship or sisterhood, if you will; and these women, they are strong, no matter how they appear at times or the things they do, they are strong and have so much heart! I would love to keep writing so much but I don't want to give away too much about this book so as to not ruin it for future readers. (OMG...the epilogue....beautifully done...just perfect) SR

I've said it before and I'll say it again- I'm a HEA kind of girl. So why would a contem-romance loving girl fall as much in love with zompoc? Because there's no other ride like it. The feeling I get in the pit of my stomach, when something is about to go down- will they survive another day? And if they do what will tomorrow hold. I'm on the edge of my seat, hoping against all odds that everyone will come out unscathed. Saying that though, Thicker Than Blood is unlike any other zompoc book I've read. Yes, there's zombies and people DIE but it's much more than that. The friendship, the love, the hope, and the unrelenting will to not only survive but to LIVE overshadows that. We get a look at what happens to the human race after the dust begins to settle. After we learn what keeps them out, but what/who are we enclosed with. Are the dangers inside just as bad or worse? With Leisel and Evelyn we find out just that. In the old world they started out an unlikely friendship but grew into an unbreakable bond. As the outbreak took hold of their town, promises were made. Promises neither knew how hard it would be to keep. What sacrifices would be made. But it was only Lei and Eve and in a disease infested world their options were slim. They didn't know that walking into the welcoming gates of Fredericksville would be another hell. Only if walking out would have been as easy as walking in. As they fight their way out, what other demons will they face? What other versions of hell will they stumble upon.. One of my favorite quotes: "He'd kissed me good-bye." "I'm not a f***ing wildcat," I whispered, chuckling darkly."I'm a god*amn lioness." *Not your typical Zompoc read at all and I'm hoping it'll bring new blood to the genre. Dip your little toe people you might just like it. **Y'all spoiled me with this one. It was beautifully written. Thanks Y'all xx

Amazing story of friendship and survival that will have you glued to the pages until the bitter end. This is not your normal dystopian read, this is a story with heart. Riley and Sheehan have created something special with Leizel and Evelyn and their intense, heart wrenching journey! If you read one book this year, make it this one!!

Riley and Sheehan instantly transport you into their world and keep you on the edge of your seat for the entire ride. You’ll question your humanity, your instincts, and your own mortality in this fast-paced post-apocalyptic novel. You’ll laugh from your own insanity, cry from your worst nightmares, and you won’t know whether to mourn or cut your losses. I don't know why I continue to keep hope alive when it comes to Riley's work. Just when I think I can predict the outcome, a gigantic, bloody wrench gets thrown into my plan for the characters, and I'm left cuddling with a blanket, rocking in the corner, clutching my hair, and sobbing. This novel has resonated with me ever since I read it. The characters are still clear in my head, and the hopelessness of their world still makes me think I was there. Looking forward to the next book. **This book does not end on a cliffhanger, but does set you up for this world to continue.**
