Awesome book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This book is one of Ann Rinaldi's best and it never failed to keep me turning pages. I finished it in a day because of that. I recommend it to all my friends even if they don't like historical fiction.

I had to read this book for school in 5 weeks but finished it in four weeks. It was slow and boring at the beggining, but in chapters 33, 34, 35, 36 and the epilougue, it is really good and could not put it down!! You must read this book. Sad, romantic, historical and heartfelt. Must read book!! Seriously. I'm not kidding, you have to read this within your lifetime. If you do not, I will find you and kill you.

I would like to begin by commenting that the plot to this book was excellent. The American Revolution hits close to home with Jemima Emerson, who has to face and overcome the struggles of war. Readers see Jem face multiple deaths, raids, punishable scandals, as well as blossoming romance and growing up. I was thoroughly entranced by "Time Enough For Drums" from page one. HOWEVER, that is not to say that this book didn't have it's structural errors. Above improper grammar and contorted, forty-word sentences (yes, there were some), I found myself filling in the story...to an undeniable fault. Indeed, it should be every author's goal to let the reader imagine some details; however, I found myself filling in practically all the book's half-finished ideas. And though I am a dialogue efficionado, the authoress utilizes an exorbitant amount in place of description; moreover, most of the time, it was erratic and poorly-executed dialogue. Was it worth it for me to read this book: yes, because the storyline was exquisite and relatively moving. Do the pros outweigh the cons: by a small amount, they do indeed.

This is one of my favorite books, by far! I can't even count how many times I've read it and each time I get caught up in the romance and historical sense of it all. The first time I read it, about two years ago, I read it in a matter of a day because I could not put it down! I love Jemima's determination and strength, as well as her fiesty spirit. And then there's John Reid, her handsome tutor! I absolutely love how he handles Jem and her stubbourn antics in such a reserved way.

I thought it was a nice shorter read. I enjoy many of Rinadi's stories and I have to say this is one of my favorites. Although I do personally think the nook book is a bit overpriced.

This is by far one of my favortite books that I have read. I still have my copy from 1991, when I was in middle school. Every now and then, I pop it out and read it. The story between Jem and John Reid never dies. She is a young woman and he is an experienced tutor. She gives him fits and he handles her with grace and sincerity. Eventually Jem comes to realize that the man she knew as her tutor is now the man she longs to have forever. Other than the love story that is there, you also get a history lesson from the perspective of both the author and the main character Jem. Compelling and a page turner. Absolutely love this book and my copy is now starting to fall apart due to the constant reading of this book. I would loved to have seen a second version that follows both Jem and John Reid after the American Revolution ended, just to see where they would have ended up.

This book is addictive as soon as you begin reading it. The relationships between family, friends, and admirerers were well-written. It was also nice to see Jemima grow up and change. I definately recommend it for any fan of historical fiction with a slight twist of romance.
