CHAPTER 1
Journey of the Son
It started with me; I was the one who was determined to defy my legacy, my birthright to prove not all Asters were created evil. This is my story to tell you and many of those to come soon after me. My journey will take me to a world of beings that have a will as strong as my own, I would join and fight with them, and I would end up changing my fate and the fate of those who succeed me. I am the one to change the Aster destiny and define future generations as good. I will rise above the darkness of my blood and show this galaxy that Asters should not be feared but followed. My name is Jon and I am an Aster.
My life was typical of a prince. I never wanted or needed anything, except my father's attention. I did not know then why he was never there. He was always out with my other siblings. I thought it was because my mother died when I was three. I thought he could not stand the sight of me; the constant reminder of his late wife. With my emerald green eyes and jet-black hair. The day I turned sixteen was the day my life would forever change. It was a good day; I walked into the city as I typically did every week. It was the only place on Voltara that I was allowed. My planet was nothing but dark and dreary in most places, although the city was of technology and very modern. The planet's surface was made of molten rock with charred mountains, volcanoes, and murky seas. While on a stroll through the city, which was the only place, I was allowed. While I strolled I saw an odd vessel in the distance. As I continued to walk the street, my curiosity grew. That's when I saw them, Humans. They looked similar to us except not as pale. I made my way to the docking station. My heart pounded when she stepped out, I felt nervous because of her beauty, Her raven hair was smooth around her ivory skin and her eyes a deep sapphire. She smiled at me when she looked up. I worked up the nerve to go over and speak to her. "Excuse me but, who are you?" I asked. "My name is Carla, I am on a mission from Earth, a member of the Galactic Alliance." It was then that she told me of her mission here and opened my eyes to the truth about my family and the terror and destruction they caused. "Are you not familiar with Voltar Aster and his destruction?" She explained. "You are lying!" I firmly informed. I felt a hot boil in my blood but it ran cold as she showed me proof, of all of it. She had photos of my father and siblings killing and raising chaos. As Carla stayed on Voltara I would sneak out to meet with her and she told me all about her home on Earth. It all sounded so amazing to me, I sometimes dream about leaving here.
As that year went on, I fell hard for her. My father had returned from one of his trips to see I was different as he strutted in his silk suit with a stern cowl brown hair and hazel eyes. "Junior I'm home!" He called from his throne room. It was the only part of our castle that showed off his arrogance and expensive taste. As I came in he could tell I was acting more like a human. "Welcome home father." I replied. "What has put a smile on your face?" I told him not realizing the consequences. "I met the most amazing girl, she is from Earth the Galactic Alliance." I answered in content. He was disgusted and had a look of disappointment. Carla had started to grow on me. "You are never to see her again." He commanded. I was bold and rebellious. "I love her, we will be together," Jon informed. "You cannot stop me!" He became quiet and walked away. I should have known then that my life with Carla would never be. I managed to slip out of the castle and back to the docking station. That's when I met her brother Tommy who was my age. "I am joining the Alliance." He told me. I decided at that moment that I would join too. I made the mistake of trusting my brother Rick with the news of my decision. As I stood in the main hall of the castle Rick entered. "I have decided to join the alliance." I announced. He stood in displeasure with his light green eyes and long blonde locks. This would not go so well. He was enraged by the thought. "You would join with our enemies?" He interrogated. "They are not our enemies if you would just hear what they have to say!" I argued, my brother silenced and gave a cold look that this wasn't over yet. After our argument I snuck off to see Carla and told her what had happened. She said, "It is time to go!" Carla insisted. I agreed without hesitation. Tommy had it all planned out. He got the ship ready for us to escape to Earth. That night I met Carla at the docking bay, ironically where we met for the first time and our last.
When I arrived, my brother Rick stood before me with his thugs, his fan club wannabe's with their straight blonde long locks and brown eyes, The Nelcon twins, two brothers that would die for mine. They had Carla in hand. "Let her go Rick!" I yelled. He became even angrier to see this display of my defiance. I would see a side of him that I'd never want to see again.
We are similar to humans except for one thing, our Dregon, a creature we can shape shift into as a defense. It is a different color of our essence for each of us but in all a similar creature form. They represent your inner soul. I only ever saw my father's dregon, which was black as night. My brother's was a fire red. His wings expanded outward with his claws extended. His eyes went from green to a soulless black. I knew what would happen next. I tried to stop him. I charged at him but he threw me back. I hit the wall so hard I was seeing double as I tried to focus my vision was blurred. When I finally saw clearly in the chaos I tried to stand but I winced in pain. I saw my brother use his claws to stab Carla in the chest. Her blood seeped out staining he very uniform. He turned his hand and pulled out her heart. "Carla!" I cried. The light faded from her eyes as she fell to the ground. I stood there frozen in horror. My own brother had brutally murdered my first love. Tommy saw what happened and ran towards me. He was pulling me up yelling but the noise was drowned out. "We need to get out of here!" He shouted. He led me on the ship and as he hurried to start the controls. I sat staring out the window as we lifted off and slowly flew farther away from my home. I did not notice my father yelling for me "Junior!" He roared. All I could see was her murder playing back in my mind over and over again. As we traveled to Earth, we sat in silence. I could not sleep and I continued to gaze out into space until I saw endless colors of blue and green that mesmerized me.
When I saw Earth for the first time, I was amazed by it all as I took it in. A wave of clam fell over me a sort of independence too. I only wished that Carla were here, as I exited the ship, I saw a vivid blue sky and a sun that felt so radiant as its rays heated my cold pale face so opposite to my home world. The sun was a symbol of comfort and my journey into the light. This is where my new life will begin.
Tommy and I went to the Galactic Alliance building. When I walked inside, it was a typical structure with stations and desks all around. I saw a mural on a high wall of all the planets in our system all accept my own. My father would never side with the Alliance. He was too busy craving power and control. I then noticed how many of the different species looked at me as I walked through the building. Some had a look of fear and others a look of hope. My name although was a reminder of death and destruction. I decided from that day forward I would not be judged by my name so I changed it from Voltar Aster Jr. to Jon Aster.
The general of Earth would be the first to welcome me. "Welcome I am General Jameson of the galactic alliance, we are so glad to have the first Voltarian here." "Hopefully not the last." He added. "Thank you for this opportunity, to prove not all Voltarians are evil." I replied. While I was becoming familiar with my new home, my old one was full of chaos. My father and brother went on a killing spree leaving a trail of blood in the streets. I was oblivious to all of this, at least for the moment.
I would begin my training and study with the Alliance. When we entered the academy it was like another world. There were so many different creatures. The only one missing was Carla. Tommy and I shared a room, which was smaller than I was used to but still feels like where I belong. I will honor Carla by becoming one of the most influential beings in this Alliance, in this galaxy. The academy is intense. As they trained us hard I was starting to make friends. No one really knew who I was or where I came from. For now I am going to keep it that way, as I am becoming my own man now. "So new recruits, are you ready for the most intense training of your young lives?" Capt. Milcroft exclaimed as he stood 6'5 he was a Neptune refter, a creature of blue skin and fur covering his massive body. Meanwhile my father and my siblings were searching the planets for me. They had no idea I was on Earth. Even if they did they could not come here, it's protected.
So Tommy and I were sure when we graduate we'd be assigned to the best Alliance base in the galaxy, which is stationed above Voltia sister planet to Voltara. So now it's finally here, graduation day. This was the day we had worked and suffered for. Tommy was the first one to arrive at the assignment board. We spent two years training for this day. I am now eighteen. I was ready to fight for what I believe in, and what Carla died for. I knew once I left Earth I would have to deal with my father and brother except this time we are on opposite sides. As I arrived Tommy was so excited. I could tell we got in because he had a look of pride. "We were accepted to Qualteran!" Tommy exclaimed, I knew we could do it. So as I began to pack up I held a photo of Carla and I on Voltara. I knew she was always with me. We arrived at our shuttle to take us to our new home. I feel like I've come full circle. I grew from a naive boy of royal blood to a noble, enlightened young man humble to be around these beings.
What a journey it has been for me, for Tommy as well we both only wish Carla could have been with us. When we arrived on the base it was massive as it hovered above Voltia. I could see my former home from its windows. It has been two years since I've seen it. What must it be like now? What has my father done to it? What has become of its people? I will soon find out. We were now headed to our briefing room. We entered a room that was more like an auditorium. We were seated and waited a few moments then the doors opened. Two very different looking humans stood there. One was dark skinned with brown eyes and heavy built and the other was fair skin with Hazel eyes and a little slimmer.
The first was our commander Biscus Brown, His brown short hair with streaks of gray. He looked like he'd seen battle. The second was our pilot commander Dylan McKay. He had light brown hair. He looked somewhat sad like he lost someone he loved. I would discover soon just who she was and her connection to me. "Ok lets get started, we have reports of Rick Aster at his Gentlemen's Club." Biscus informed. We are to go there and take him down. I could feel my heart pounding. The thought of seeing my brother again after all this time, I don't know if I will be able to control this dark vengeance I feel inside.
After our briefing "So grab your gear and head to the docking bay," Dylan stated. As we went down the corridor I saw her. She was beautiful. Her blonde hair shining and her eyes like emeralds. Her name was Jessica, and she was from Voltia. She was one of the first women to join this team. She was brave and tough. She would become my reason for living. She will be one of the reasons why I will not be my father's son. "Am I late?" She asked. "We are headed to the docking bay." Tommy replied. As we left the base, Dylan briefed us on our mission. "Ok we are gonna go in and scope out the club once we see him we take him down." Dylan instructed. I was busy trying not to show my fear. Tommy knew what this day would mean. He also looked forward to it. I knew he wanted his sister's killer dead. I just wanted to hate my own brother but deep down I was conflicted. When we landed we split up. Jessica was my partner. We made our way into the club. Of course I have never been in it, but I have heard all about it. Rick would tell me about the beautiful women he kept in his employee. It reeked of liquor and sex to me. The women were indeed beautiful as he described but they were also hired assassins and criminals. The table off the corner of the main bar was where my brother sat with his sinister grin and women on each side.
Also seated there were the Nelcon twins. I could feel my blood run cold. I wanted to become my dregon, use my abilities and slaughter them for what they did to Carla. "Ok hold it galactic alliance!" Ralph shouted. All the people ran for the exits but we took them down. "Nice, did you have to cause panic?" Mitch replied. As they were cuffed with the Mandistan Bracelet, which suppressed any abilities like ours, just then they walked Rick by me. He just smirked not saying anything. Jessica asked. "Is something wrong?" "First mission jitters". I responded. Although she could tell it was more. Back on the base I was in sickbay for my physical when he walked up.
This skinny nerdy guy, wearing standard issue alliance uniform and he introduced himself "I am Dr. Paul Schwartz". Who knew he'd become my best friend later. He scanned me and he was fascinated to find out I was Voltarian and he was not afraid. He only wanted to study me and learn "Why would a being with your power, want to join the Alliance?" He asked. Making me realize that after all that happened I could never return home. "The alliance and earth are my family now". As he kept chatting I could hear my brother in my thoughts summoning me.
"I will kill everyone in this base if you don't come to me now." Rick vowed. So I excused myself abruptly and left. I went to our Cell Block. I knew what I wanted to tell him. I had rehearsed it for two years. However when I got to the cell I just stood there, "It is time for you to come home". Rick ordered. I lost my temper and blasted him back with my telekinetic powers. He got up and smiled looking unfazed by it. "Our father will be seeing you soon." Rick replied confidently. As I left the Cell Block, I came upon Jessica. She was waiting at my door. "Why are you here?" I asked, "I know everything." Jessica confessed. She then proceeded to tell me about her telepathic abilities, which all Voltians possess. All I could think of was how beautiful she was. How her eyes seemed to glow when she was engaged in conversation. Then I thought, could I risk my heart again? What if my family killed her? I politely excuse myself and went to the Mess Hall.
All of the other team members were gathered here eating, laughing, and drinking. I came up to them. They informed me of their victory celebration. I sat to join them. They are a very different bunch from all types of beings. Ralph is our comedian and also the commander's son. He always saw the lighter side and was quick to come up with something that would make us all laugh and a good friend to have in the thick of battle. "I didn't know if I should arrest him, for murder or prostitution his hair confused me". Ralph said. He was not the only one on the team to know battle. Mitch Trent, he was twenty-five and the oldest of us. His skin is a light gray color, his eyes brown. He's from Jupiter. He also used to run with my father's gang until he realized that path was the wrong one. "Tell me about it, here is to bagging an aster". Mitch said as he raised his glass. Cole clings his with him. Cole Babor we met briefly at the academy. He has brown hair and green eyes. He is humanoid from Mars. I did not realize it then but he too was running away from his own past. He had come from a line of criminals. His sisters Cora and Cara, twins, caused more death to the male population than any before them, we will meet them soon enough.
Our next mission was the Babor Twins, beautiful but deadly women. "They are the most unstable women we'll meet." Dylan replied as we sat. "There are a trail of dead handsome young men all over Mars." Biscus added. Cole was sure he could get through to them. I hope he was right, although in my heart I knew they could not be changed, as I knew that of my father and brother. This is where Jesse comes in. He is the youngest of us at sixteen but don't let that fool you he is extremely smart. He can track anyone anywhere. "I found the twins sir." He informed as he entered small tech device in hand.
There will also be another to join us he too was young. Shane Laurence. With his light green eyes and straight short sandy blonde hair. He is from Voltia. I felt like we should know each other but I could not place where. "Also we have a new member." Dylan replied as Shane entered in his uniform and strong presence. "This is Shane Laurence." He adds. We all got acquainted on our way to the docking bay. Later we landed on Mars to find the Babor Twins, we walked to a local tavern where they were last seen. "Please let me go in first." Cole begged." "Alright you got five minutes." Dylan agreed. As he entered he saw them at the table looking over a map. It would seem they were looking for someone. Turned out that was Cole. He was never raised by them but by a kind older gentleman, which is why his heart is pure.
