About the Author

Growing up some six miles from town on a 2,500-acre ante-bellum “plantation,” Susan once again writes from experience. Characters in this book come not just from imagination, but from memory — bootleggers, cattle rustlers and interracial courtships. Her debut novel, The Bottom Rail, was chosen as a finalist for the 2013 Georgia Author of the Year’s best first novel. Before publication, it won awards in the Dahlonega Literary Festival as well as the Southeastern Writers Association Workshop. This is her second novel and ninth published book. Her non-fiction articles have been published in various local, state and national publications. Her rural life was influenced by scientists and writers such as her neighbor Flannery O’Connor and her aunt, Sue Myrick, who went on to become technical consultant for Southern authenticity for the making of the movie "Gone With The Wind."
