This is my all time favorite book. My personal copy is more than 20 years old, many times read and much battered. What caught my eye was that this is labeled a 'textbook' edition. About time! I used this book repeatedly in the early 80's in 'sociology through science fiction' courses. The book speaks to the essential question of what makes humans 'human' and, in a way that delights to the sociologist in me, suggests that 'nurture' is at least as important as 'nature'. For the clones (every bit as biologically human as their donors) have lost some of the essence of humanity because they lack that sense of separation and aloneness that normally marks the human condition.

I acquired this book from a library sale years ago, and have read it at least once a year since. It's wonderfully written with distinctive charecters, a plausable storyline, and twists and turns all along the story. It's not your normal Sci-Fi or Fantasy book, it's a little bit of everything put together!
