A History of St Catharine's College, Cambridge, by W. H. S. Jones, was originally published in 1936. The book documents the history of the college, which was founded in 1473 by Robert Woodlark, then the Provost of King's College. It is thought the name was chosen in honour of Catharine of France, the mother of King Henry VI, although it is also possible that it was named as part of the Renaissance cult of St Catharine, a patron saint of learning.
