A Shameless Little Con by Meli Raine

I didn't do it.

I never betrayed my friend.

Last year, I was kidnapped along with presidential candidate's daughter Lindsay Bosworth, forced to help her assailants, my mother implicated in one of the biggest political scandals in American history.
I've been cleared of any wrongdoing, but that doesn't matter. Once you're tried by the media, you're guilty as sin. The truth doesn't get the public's attention.

But shame? Shame sells.

And everyone assumes you're tainted.

Now I have my own personal security team, courtesy of the United States government. Not the one you learned about in civics class, though.

I'm being tracked by the deep state. The shadow government. They've assigned Silas Gentian to be with me twenty-four seven. He thinks he knows everything about me – all of it bad -- and he does.

On paper.

Like everyone else, he assumes I'm a traitor. A backstabber. A betrayer. Someone who helped a group of violent psychopaths, puppets of powerful men in Washington who made me into a tool.

Yet I see how he looks at me. True desire can't be faked.

Or hidden.

And that goes both ways.

He assumes I'm trying to fool him.

And he might be right.

But not for the reasons he thinks.

A Shameless Little Con is the first book in the Shameless trilogy by USA Today bestselling author Meli Raine.

Good as far as it goes. Not a complete story. I'm not fond of cliff hangers.

The book is engaging with a lot of suspense, action, and some romance. Really enjoyed the characters, especially Jane with her cynical yet comedic personality. Great characters and a plot that played out well. I was correct in some of my predictions but the story still managed to surprise me. That cliffhanger really got me too!

Author spends a great amount of time and words describing the emotion being felt by the character. The storyline is vague and gets completely lost at times.

I do not like books that need to be continued. The story bounced around from one place to the other, never making sense of what they were trying to find exactly.

I don't care for this style of writing. Jane sounds like a whiny little twit. I got this ebook for free... That's about what it's worth.

Man this book is a page turner.  I could not put it down.  Jane Borokov is a train wreck.  Her life is in the dumps that is for sure.  Accused of a crime she did not commit and tore apart by the social media, Jane is trying to put her life back together.  Everyone is against her.  "Shame, Shame Shame" She is evicted and fired from her job, all because of who she is.  What will she do?  The government now controls her every move and her life is in jeopardy.   I hear read that you should read the Harmless series by Meli Raine before this series, but I  did not.  I hear that Jane is from that series and that this is a continuation from her story.  I did not feel lost at all when reading this book.  You get enough info to keep you informed.  But hey if you feel froggy then read those first. This book is a thriller of epic proportions,  Jane deals with a lot of crap.  Honestly I don't know how she is hanging on.  I would have just gave up.  This book has some deep-seated emotions in it and crazy twisted plot lines.  With an oh shit! ending that leaves you hanging and wanting more.   This book flow smooth and at a steady pace that did not leave me bored for one second.  I really enjoyed this thrilling drama driven book.  This first book, in the trilogy, grabs your attention and you can't help but become invested in the end game.  I have already started on book 2 A Shameless Little Lie.  So get your copy today.

Wow, what a roller coaster ride this book is! I enjoyed this, the intrigue and depth of the deception is outstanding. Have no choice but to move on to the next book. I enjoyed the Harmless series which this was spun off from, so far this is my favorite. Go for it!

OMG! This series contains all the heart-pounding suspense, intrigue and sexual tension that Meli Raine's Harmless series had. Just when you think you've got something figured out, the author throws a strong twist in to dispel your theory and keep you on the edge of your seating tapping page after page in your e-reader! If you haven't read the Harmless series, although it's not necessary to appreciate this new series, it's something that will help bridge the time before the second book, A Shameless Little Lie comes out, since this story ends on a cliffhanger! You won't regret starting either series! Can't wait!

Complex, Gripping Story of Tragedy and Public Opinion!! This is an off-shoot of the Harmless series – which I will admit I have not read yet. I was still easily able to keep up with the plot and characters, and fully intend to remedy that lapse shortly by reading that series also. An interesting study in whether the truth matters, and how public opinion can ruin a person’s life. Jane is accused of assisting in the kidnap and worse to her friend Lindsey. Silas is her 24/7 enforced security. The only thing worse than having the world hate you, is having the person who must remain close to you look at you with revulsion. A complex web of intrigue is presented along with the repercussion to those involved. A delicious study of human nature, the current access to information (or misinformation) and those who bend the facts to meet their own ends. Fascinating read!!! *** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book ***

A Shameless Little Con is a magnificent masterpiece that will devastatingly shatter and deliriously twist your very perception as you journey through the darkest regions of the ambition, greed, and power. You will learn about the exquisite pain and extreme isolation of being forced into the reaches of oblivion and holding onto the strains of sanity in a world turned against you. There is nothing more powerful and utterly debasing than being the center of shame, ridicule, and hate. How far can one person be made into a non-person by those who seek salacious rumors and do anything to feed an atmosphere of oppression and lies? Jane may not have been a key player in the horrific scandal of Lindsay Bosworth, but she is still vilified as one of the monsters who dare infect their poison and filth on civilized society. Information has power and those who wield that information hold absolute power. They crawl through the walls to determine the best way to attack and hold you captive. They never attack you head on instead they hit you sideways and upside down, so that you will ever suspect them. Misdirection is their greatest weapon and they wield it with familiarity and grace. Only when one chooses to truly think about the information before them and weigh the truth from the lies are they finally able to claim a small measure of power. The depth and purity in this story is astounding and breathtaking. There is nothing but the pure baring of the human soul to its very core. All pretention and niceties set aside for the seeking of truth and finding the very secrets of the soul. Only then can you figure out who you really are and what things in life are truly worth fighting for. Meli Raine has captured my heart from her very first series, but this book is something very different and very special. It is pure magic that holds my very soul in its hands. It not only engages all of my senses but it ignites them on fire until they transcend to a new dimension. Raine is a true literary master of words that transform, of heart that feels and of spirit that enlightens. I have not yet found her equal, and I will cherish and savor every work of pure genius that she blesses me with. They make my heart lighter, my feet surer, and my mind freer.

Man, I love this series! I have missed these characters. You just never know what to expect from this series. Just when I thought things were all wrapped up, bam! Everything goes haywire again… and the mystery deepens. Just how deep does this thing go? I can’t wait to find out! I was hooked on this book from page one and remained riveted to the very last word… and those last words were a doozy! I found this book to be impassioned and intriguing, romantic and heartfelt, provocative and thrilling, and utterly enthralling. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a sexy and compelling read. *I was given an ARC of this book and voluntarily chose to review. All opinions are my own.

Wow this story just grips you and does not let go... Emotionally thrilling, action packed, heart pounding twists and turns not to mention the exciting cliffhanger. Jane is the most hated woman in America thanks to a all out media smear complain after she and her best friend (Lindsay) where kidnapped and she was accused of helping the kidnappers. She is broke and has had very thing and every one systematically striped from her life and is only living thanks to Lindsay's father providing her with shelter and a bodyguard. Silas Gentian is assigned to watch her 24/7 and keep her alive, he is also an employee of Lindsay's new husband. Very intriguing and complicated web of danger, deceit and betrayal of the deepest kind. Looking forward to the next story in this promising series.

Wow! Wow! Those are the first words that came to my mind as I was reading this new book by Meli Raine. This is the first book in her new Shameless series so if you expect it to end on the last page that is not going to happen. It will end with a cliff hanger and boy did it! I was not prepared for how it did in fact end and I knew going in that would not be finished with this book! I started this book on Thursday evening and finished it on Friday I could not stop reading, it was just so good! This series starts about 6 months after the Harmless series ended ( which was an excellent series). We see a lot of the characters from that series here as well! I was so glad to see Lindsay and Drew but this is Jane and Silas story. We even see Lindsay's awful mother Monica and she is still as evil as ever! This series focus is on Jane and her quest to prove that she had nothing to do with what happened to Lindsay. She is determined to prove to all of those doubters that she is telling the truth and as of now only her friend and former teacher Alice believes her! This book has many twists that I didn't see coming! It has some sweet moments, sad moments, funny moments along with some hot and oh no that did not happen moments. I can not wait to read the next book in this series to see what happens next to Jane and if she and Silas get closer( I so do hope so!) I want to thank Meli Raine for giving me the opportunity to read an ARC of this book. I already have pre-ordered this and will happily add it to my e-book library.

Who can you trust when the whole world believes you’re a monster? That’s the reality facing Jane now. As she fights nameless, faceless, accusers in an effort to prove her innocence, her life hangs in the balance because proving she didn’t do it might just uncover who really did. I’m used to reading the wacky fun published by this alter-ego’s author self. This is quite different in all of the best ways. It’s deep, dark, twisted, and complex. There’s moments of the author’s signature humor, such as a turbulent encounter in an airplane bathroom, but they serve to highlight how gritty the rest of the story is. I found myself nearly bawling at the unfairness of Jane’s plight. Even Silas’ family situation broke my heart. It has an abrupt cliff-hanger ending that’s left me gnashing my teeth in frustration, anxious to get my hands on the next book. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book.

What excitement for Jane & Lindsay.
