Rink Mann lived in New Hampshire and made his own maple syrup for many years. He died in 2003.

Michael Farrell serves as the director of Cornell University’s Uihlein Forest, a maple syrup research and extension field station in Lake Placid, NY. He is the author of The Sugarmaker's Companion.

This was a useful book for understanding the basic principals of boiling water out of sap to produce syrup but it was lacking quality photos and drawings. Only one drawing in the beginning of the book augmented by several grainy black-and-white photos with no labels or arrows pointing to features described in the accompanying text.
