Clarity 2 by Loretta Lost

When violent memories come racing back, he is her only hope...

Helen Winters was living a lonely existence when the charming Dr. Liam Larson coaxed her out of solitude with the promise of healing her sightless eyes. She was hopeful at the prospect of gaining vision for the first time and being reunited with her family. She was also growing somewhat fond of the persuasive young doctor. For the first time in years, she was being magnetically drawn to a new friend...

Then everything came crashing down.

Plunged into a hellish nightmare, Helen is forced to face the same evils she ran away to escape so long ago. She is unprepared to have her hopes crushed and her peace destroyed. She finds herself living in constant terror and drowning in fear--and Liam's voice is the only thing that can keep her afloat. His comforting touch becomes the only light in her pitch-black darkness. Helen has always been a tough girl who relied only on herself. But this time, she can't survive alone. Due to the horrors of her past, Helen has promised herself not to trust anyone. When her life becomes unbearable, how can she trust Liam enough to let him save her?

It was really good. I enjoyed the progression of Helen's story, and I would definitely love to read more. I am very glad that it's a series. I am happy to get to spend more time with the characters!

Loved this sequel. Clarity One was something different, so I did not wait to get this one. It did not let me feel down. It's a great read with a nice story line. Loretta did it again and I loved reading it until the end. I will definitely recommend this book.

Clarity 2 picks up right from the suspenseful finish of the first book. After being faced with a fate that can only be described as a cruel act of God, she is forced to confront her demons and the prospect that her nightmares may forever become a part of her life. Desperate for escape, reason, and time to think things through, Winter allows the charming doctor Liam to try to nurse her back to health. In the face of incredible hardships, Winter searches for some way to turn these events into some that will not only make herself stronger, but also heal the grievous wounds that she still holds. Ms. Lost presents the reader with the serious issue of whether it is better to live for your own happiness or other’s in an intelligent and clever manner. It is a test of character and fortitude that would push anyone to their limits. The last book leaves you wondering how Winter will survive. This one addresses perhaps a much more important question of how Winter can live. If these books are a testament to anything, it is that survival is not the same as living. Which is truly the better answer is left up to the reader to decide. Again, this is not a book for the faint of heart as there is a strong emphasis placed on the serious issue of rape and how the victim, their family, friends, and others must move forward in the aftermath. This may be a short book, but it is certainly not a light read. It will make you question, ponder, and think over the events, decisions, actions, and motives that take place to and because of the characters. Of course, that is the best hallmark of a great book.

After reading ‘Clarity’ I was excited to see what happens next in the series. I was completely surprised by the opening of Clarity 2. Author Loretta Lost throws us into a shocking revelation as we endure the heartbreak and anxiety alongside Helen. Lost continues building the characters as we fall deeper into them and hang in suspense wondering how it will all come together.  Clarity 2 picks up at Helen’s sister Carmen’s wedding. When an unexpected turn of events throws off everything, Helen must make an impossible decision and fight for the person she loves. The suspense and fear mount as Helen faces her demon and struggles against him. Meanwhile Liam continues trying to build a relationship with Helen amidst all the challenges. The ending is quite a cliffhanger and leading me now to purchase the third book in the series. I can’t wait to find out how it ends. I highly recommend it!

Poor Helen has grown up without sight. Being blind didn't stop her from being a wonderful writer, but after a horrid assault she runs away from the world to live in a cabin in the middle of nowhere. After meeting a couple of wonderful (and funny) doctors who want to perform an operation that might restore her sight, Helen ends up back at her childhood home. Helen has to endure a nasty reminder of the most horrible thing that ever happened to her, learn to be strong and fight back and maybe to fall in love with a wonderful man. Ending with a huge cliffhanger that makes you scream NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! The author has an amazing way with words, I totally could not stop reading this series... I just started this morning and it's only 5pm and I already read books one and two. The character of Helen is superbly crafted .... she is real and believable and I can't help but sit in anticipation for Book 3 to come out :) Wow... such a fun day I've had in Helen's world. I would recommend these books to anyone really...

Reading Clarity 2 gave me goosebumps. The power of a writer or novelist lies in how well she reveals—in her own terms and literary skill—the story, one scene after another, in the most powerful way possible. Clarity 2 (which includes the previous book in this series, for that matter) puts you in the front seat of a deeply emotional rollercoaster that chugs along in dizzying speed then spews you out on the edge of a cliff—that’s how it feels to be in Helen Winters’ skin, surrounded by people she loathes, her whole sanity depending on that one beam of sunlight named Liam. It’s hard to describe the emotional power of Clarity 2—the closest I could compare it to is when I watched Lars von Trier’s film ‘Dancer in the Dark’ and I couldn’t even sit well on the couch as I kept lurching forward to catch myself. I’m not usually a huge fan of novels written in the first person perspective, but in this series of books, it’s almost a necessity, as the narrative puts you in the front row where the show is Helen’s life unravelling, one heart-wrenching scene after another. While reading it, I got so curious that I actually visited the author’s website, and I was right: even Loretta Lost confessed how emotionally difficult it was to write it. But then again, this is a terrific read that must not be missed. Clarity 2 is right as rain—I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Clarity 3.

It’s incredibly amazing how author Loretta Lost has written the Clarity trilogy. It’s rare to find an author who writes something that is both beautiful and still leaves you feeling drained—as though for the few hours you’re reading her book, you’re uncannily in the shoes of Helen Winters, saddled by emotional trauma and her physical disabilities, unable to live a normal life.  Clarity 2 immediately follows in the hot wake of the previous book—if you’re like me who read it and couldn’t move on from the cleverly crafted cliffhanger, then reading Clarity 2 is like finding an oasis in the middle of the desert. I was that thirsty. And hungry. And aching. And I consumed Clarity 2 with such fervour, I’m still reeling from it. Make no mistake—this is both an easy and hard read. Easy because it’s essentially a love story blossoming amid difficult—if not impossible—circumstances, and who would not find inspiration in that? Hard because, as I’ve said, it’s not easy to watch Helen recoil from every disappointment, quiver from her fear (real or imagined) of reconnecting with another person, even if it’s as honest as Liam. Clarity 2 did not disappoint. If you’ve read the first book, this continuation of Helen’s story will make the afternoon disappear. Get a copy.

I would have rated better if this was a stand alone book or bundled with the other 2. I resent authors who write books that force you to buy the next one to know what happened. The is a good story. A reason for the lower rating is that the Helen lived in a situation that was just not believable. If she had moved to another house or apartment it would have been more believable. Other than that the story kept you going and since it also is a very short story, 100 pages, it was a quick read. I do recommend but would buy all 3 at one time.

After you read this book, there is another one...maybe a little notice that this is a series?! Is it going to end on 3 or does this continue to unravel?
