This is a short novel, about 60,000 words.

On the outside, Dina Demille is the epitome of normal. She runs a quaint Victorian Bed and Breakfast in a small Texas town, owns a Shih Tzu named Beast, and is a perfect neighbor, whose biggest problem should be what to serve her guests for breakfast. But Dina is...different: Her broom is a deadly weapon; her Inn is magic and thinks for itself. Meant to be a lodging for otherworldly visitors, the only permanent guest is a retired Galactic aristocrat who can't leave the grounds because she's responsible for the deaths of millions and someone might shoot her on sight. Under the circumstances, "normal" is a bit of a stretch for Dina.

And now, something with wicked claws and deepwater teeth has begun to hunt at night....Feeling responsible for her neighbors, Dina decides to get involved. Before long, she has to juggle dealing with the annoyingly attractive, ex-military, new neighbor, Sean Evans--an alpha-strain werewolf--and the equally arresting cosmic vampire soldier, Arland, while trying to keep her inn and its guests safe. But the enemy she's facing is unlike anything she's ever encountered before. It's smart, vicious, and lethal, and putting herself between this creature and her neighbors might just cost her everything.

Meet the Author

Ilona Andrews is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. Ilona is a native-born Russian and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the U.S. Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who seduced him. They met in college, in English Composition 101, where Ilona got a better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.)

Gordon and Ilona currently reside in Texas with their two children, and many dogs and cats. They have co-authored two series, the bestselling urban fantasy of Kate Daniels and romantic urban fantasy of The Edge.

I received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review I’m a rabid fan of Ilona Andrews’ Kate Daniels series so when it was announced that Ilona and Gordon would be putting out a new story, serial-fashion, on their blog I was SOO excited and tuned in regularly for the first installments of CLEAN SWEEP. Unfortunately, life got in the way and I got WAY behind on the serial so I was thrilled when they announced that they would be releasing CLEAN SWEEP in its entirety so I could read it all at once. And like with the Kate Daniels series, I was completely enraptured right from the start. CLEAN SWEEP is a departure from everything I’m used to by Andrews. Oh there are still werewolves and vampires, but it’s a completely different (and fascinating) mythos and I don’t think I’ve ever encountered anything like Dina before. The Innkeepers are a unique mix of magic and the otherworldly as are the Inns themselves…and I can’t wait to learn more about them. As usual, Ilona Andrews creates wonderful, compelling characters. Dina may give the impression to her neighbors that she’s just a quiet innkeeper of a bed-and-breakfast, but all of that is an image. She’s smart and protective of the Inn, her Guests, and her neighborhood so when trouble starts to plague the neighborhood she’s quick to jump in to help. As for Sean and Arland (or Yummy and Yummier…although I’m not really sure which is which)? They’re each pretty badass in their own ways. The fast-paced action, humor, and the just plain incredible story-telling of CLEAN SWEEP proves yet again why anything Ilona Andrews puts out is a must-read for me…and it should be for you too! So grab your copy now!

I am a big fan of Ilona Andrews and read everything she and her husband write. This was on a par with the rest of their books. Funny, sweet, and bittersweet, I am looking forward to the next adventure.

A new premise which was intriguing! The book was everything that I have learned to expect from Ilona Andrews, namely, a good read! I loved it and can’t wait for the next installment in the series! Keep up the good work!

I like the other series by these authors, so I went for this one. Enjoyed it as a one day read (183 pages). Good details matter in world creation to make suspending belief possible. The writing moves well and the excitement keeps going. Worth it for the fun.

I really like the Kate Daniels series and didn't think I would find another Ilona Andrews series I liked more. But this is my favorite. I wish it was longer. It's a very short book.

I did not expect to enjoy this as much as I did. It hooked me from the beginning and I flew through this read without realizing it. I was sad to see it end and can't wait to read the next!

Clean Sweep is the first book in The Inn Keeper Chronicle series. It’s a shorter novel, 227 pages, or about 60000 words. The collector edition contains drawings of some of the characters. This wasn’t the type of story I was expecting, since Ilona Andrews usually writes a lot about magic, dark urban fantasy to be more exact. At least that’s where I put it. But I was surprised to find a world of science fiction and magic blended well together in a world where aliens come to Earth, and go about their business, and leave. Usually, leaving only myths about them, if that, and it’s all because of the Inn Keepers and their Inns, neutral ground for visitors of the unearthly sort. Dina, an Innkeeper, decides to take matters in her own hands when a string of gruesome dog attacks affect her neighbors. I really liked this story, though the Inn seems to be the Cousin version of Doctor Who’s TARDIS. I sometimes over think things, just a little bit. But the reinvention of vampires and werewolves, was interesting and creative, not to mention the aliens, and places they came from. This story is worth checking out, a good balance of interesting characters, and a good story with just enough drama and action to keep a reader enjoying the ride.

It's out-of-this-world entertaining! “Mr. Evans?" I called. "A moment of your time?" He looked at me as if he'd never seen me before. "Do I know you?" "My name is Dina. I own the bed-and-breakfast." He glanced past me at the old house sitting at the mouth of the subdivision. "That monstrosity?" Aren't you sweet? "Yes.” CLEAN SWEEP by the writing team of Ilona Andrews is an absolutely fantastic beginning to the authors' new Innkeeper Chronicles series. It is the first book I've ever read by these authors and I was blown away! After reading this, I was so enamored that I was motivated to purchase the audio sequel to this book, SWEEP IN PEACE, and the complete Edge series in audio. I understand that the Edge series with The Innkeeper Chronicles. Yes, this book was that good; I was so impressed with it that it made my top ten list for calendar year 2015. As the story begins, we meet Dina. Dina runs a magical Bed and Breakfast in a small Texas town. Her B&B looks normal on the outside. None of her neighbors realize that her inn is actually part of a network of inns that cater to other-worldly guests. The inn, itself, is a magical entity with powers that it derives from the guests that stay there, so the more guests that the inn houses, the more robust the inn. When a deadly creature starts assaulting her neighbors, Dina is forced to take action. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat. Dina is a quirky quirky heroine who I liked right away. Her Shih Tzu's call name is 'Beast' and it lives up to it. Her broom is a weapon extraordinaire. Then... I fell in love with sexy Sean Evans, an alpha. badass wolf shifter who teams up with Dina to fight the creatures who dare to infringe on his territory. I sure hoping to see more of Sean in future books! This tale sported a colorful assortment of supporting characters from werewolves to vampires and much more. Caldenia, one of Dina's guests, was one of my favorites. Here's a short snippet from a conversation between her and Arland, a vampire. “I believe I've met your grandfather, the Bloody Butcher of Odar." "That's correct." "I remember now. A delightful man, wonderfully dry sense of humor." Arland blinked. "My grandfather has been called many names in his lifetime. Delightful was not one of them. He remembers you also. You tried to poison him." Caldenia waved her fingers. "I've tried to poison everyone at one time or another. Don't take it personally.” CLEAN SWEEP was voiced by Renee Raudman. This was the first time I'd ever listened to her narrate anything and I'm totally sold. Her voice was very clear and pleasing to listen to. She delivered a solid performance with both her female and male voices sounding thoroughly genuine. Obviously, I was smitten since I went right out and purchased five more audios that she's narrated. I don't know how I have missed reading any books from Ilona Andrews previously. CLEAN SWEEP was well-written and excellently orchestrated. It was fast-paced with a solid plot line and set in an incredibly amazing world. I've not been able to forget this book since I listened to it and can't wait to jump into SWEEP IN PEACE. I highly recommend CLEAN SWEEP to anyone who enjoys paranormal urban fantasies that border on science fiction. It's out-of-this- world entertaining! Absolutely Amazing! 5 Stars! This book is absolutely fantastic. I am convinced that the writing team of Ilona and Gordan Andrews can do no wrong. I was immediately pulled into the story once I started reading and simply could not stop reading until I had finished the book, which was a bit of a problem since I was supposed to be keeping pace with a group of friends who were reading it with me - oops, sorry guys. Unfortunately, the fact that I finished so quickly has created a new problem in that I have to wait to read the next book in the series and I hate waiting. "I didn't have all the relevant information. Had I known you had a haunted house, a magic broom, and a devil dog on your side, my initial response would've been different." The cast of characters in the story are just phenomenal. Dina is an Innkeeper. She is a tough girl who is not afraid to act on her own. She is spunky, stands up for herself, and more than willing to handle difficult situations when the need arises. Beast is her small dog and maybe just a little bit more than that. Sean is a werewolf who happens to be new in town. He has a lot to learn and Dina is not afraid to tell him what he doesn't know. Caldenia is the one and only guest at Dina's Inn and she is always more than willing to take troublemakers off your hands, especially if they look tasty. Arland is a vampire who seeks refuge at Dina's inn. Gertrude Hunt is the inn and while many would not consider the inn to be a character, it was one of my favorite characters in the story. "It's not funny. I've got a naked drunk vampire running around my orchard." I love most things that fall in the paranormal category. I really enjoyed the fact that humor found its way into this story. I love the banter between characters that this author incorporates into the story. The humor fit into this story naturally without being forced and it added to the story. I love that these characters were able to laugh at each other. I hate it when fictional characters takes themselves too seriously. "I suggest you give up now. According to my research, in a vampire-werewolf love triangle, the vampire always gets the girl." I am not usually a fan of love triangles but any romance found in this book was so minor that I didn't mind this time and to be honest I don't think that this triangle was really much of a triangle. I think that the world this story was set in was so well done. It was very different than any other story I have read and it was so believable. If you think that this book is simply going to be another Kate Daniels story - you are just plain wrong. If you have read Kate Daniels, then you should already know how amazing this writing pair is and you need to read this book. I also think that this would be a fantastic book for anyone new to Ilona Andrews to start with because it is an excellent representation of their skills both as writers and storyteller. I recommend this book to anyone and everyone and can't wait to read more of this series.
