Eyes of the Woods by Eden Fierce

Eris Helgren knew her life was about to end. A daughter of the Priory-a generations-old family who protected their territories from nightwalkers-Eris was strong and independent. But on her birthday, her father would announce her betrothal. A year later, she would be forced to marry.

What Eris didn't know was that the very monsters she hunted were watching her, and that being tamed wasn't what would kill her after all.

In a land where the woods were forbidden and the laws meant life, Eris will have to make a decision that could bring peace between enemies, or war among friends.

After Twilight vampires became THE THING to read when it came to Young Adult fiction and for a few years that was pretty much all  I read. I’ve got an entire bookshelf to prove it LOL, but as most fads go after a while vampires became clichéd and over done and  I pretty much lost all interest in the topic. I haven’t picked up a vampire book in a couple of years and when I found out Eden Fierce  had a debut novel coming out that was vampire-ish I had a few reservations about it. After all the buzz and looking into the storyline a  little more I found myself more and more interested in the book. Once I got the book and started reading I realized something right off the bat. This was NOTHING like Twlight. Eris was an amazing  main character that was not only loyal but extremely brave too. She also wasn’t afraid to question tradition and stick up for herself.  There were a few things that I thought would happen that never did and I didn’t expect the twists that did pop up! For a debut novel Eden Fierce did an amazing job and even though this is a standalone I’d love to see Eris and Daniel’s story expanded on!  I highly recommend! Eyes of the Woods was a refreshing and amazing take on the vampire scene!  I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next! I’ll be keeping my eyes out for more from this talented author! One of my favorite quotes! “I don’t even have to look up anymore, Eris. You’re a sky full of stars.” *** I received a copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review***

I have just finished this novel by a new young author.  I read it straight through which I have not done since Anne McCaffrey's last novel.  I am in the twilight of my life and many of the authors I have loved over the years are passing away.  While I have found new authors, I have not found one that captured and held my attention from start to finish as much as this young and talented author has in quite the same way as my favorites.  Her characters are well developed and the story moves forward without getting bogged down along the way.  I encourage you to buy and enjoy this debut novel as much as I have.  I look forward eagerly to her next book.

Eden has an inspiring amount of talent and I'm blown away that at such a young age she has the ability to draw in readers so completely!!! Talent definitely runs in this family, but Edens style is absolutely her own and beyond thrilling and wonderful! I was completely engrossed in the story of Eris, I couldn't put it down!!! I am in love with the impact on accepting each other for who they are being thrown out there through the story.....Everything about this book was absolutely amazing, Edens ability to create such a thrilling story, having such loved and captivating characters that you feel like you actually know them, the ease it was written in letting the reader be able to feel like they are actually there seeing the story with their own eyes, and the imagination and acceptance involved....LOVED IT!!!! GREAT JOB EDEN!!!!!!

To say that I was utterly impressed with this debut author's novel would be an understatement! Eyes of the Woods was refreshing, thrilling, and quite imaginative. There's a little bit of romance, some rebellion, familial ties, obligation....basically everything to keep you invested in the words without ever feeling overwhelmed. Eyes of the Woods was a phenomenal, multidimensional story with exploration into complex relationships. I loved Eris with her brothers and how close they all were. When she was in trouble or being doubted, it was those siblings who lifted her up. Furthermore, it was extraordinary to see the warring emotions she experienced with both her parents. Eris was dealing with duty to her family (laws of the territory and her father governing them coupled with her mother's enthusiasm for her betrothal to a man NOT of her choosing). She was struggling with doing the "right thing" versus her inner needs and desires. Even after the fateful event occurs and everything changes, she is left to decide and battle different needs against what is law. I thought it was so interesting how Eden Fierce delved into these topics. The story wasn't full of angst, but begged the question of what we must follow - society or our heart. Though it's never explicitly stated that way, it became such a shining moment in the story for me. I really did appreciate each of the players in the story as well. I thought that each one embodied something different for Eris and made her character complete. Her father (the protector) and her mother (the nurturer); it was the quintessential picture of love and support, but having to honor and obey. They instilled values and respect, but not without showing her what love truly meant. Her brothers also played important parts and allowed her to remain grounded to the family. They were constant reminders of who she was, and where she was going. Finally, we met Daniel, the boy with the red eyes. He embodied the potential of what could be - having both her freedom and her family. It was wonderful to see him push her boundaries and force her to question things, but never without being understanding or harsh. It was astounding to see how each character came together and completed the puzzle of who she really was. This novel was incredibly well written and thought out. As a reader, I could tell how much creative thinking and heart went into it. Eden Fierce has a pure raw talent for writing extraordinary characters in a setting we don't experience every day. The details were vivid, creating these gorgeous images in my mind. The language used was sophisticated and transported me to this time and place I was reading about. I felt a part of the story, not just merely passing through. If other novels can reflect this type of work, I hope to see a LOT more from this blooming author in the future!

Eyes of the Woods was the most anticipated book of the summer for me and now having read it I truly was not prepare for it. It blew me away! I am completely amazed by Eden's talent at such a young age. She was only 14 years old when she wrote the book and now 15 on the date of its release. While I was reading I never got the sense of her youth. Her writing is very mature and her imagination is fierce. I was in amazed by her use of vocabulary and descriptions. Her words painted a gorgeous illustration in my mind. The were several times that I had to stop and pause just to appreciate the profound beauty in one sentence. Her writing is astounding. There is so much talent revealed in her debut novel that we've only been given a glimmer of. I can't wait to see where her imagination takes her next and to read the beautiful words that I am sure will eloquently flow from it.

This was an awesome book that had me hooked from the beginning. I wanted to read more about Eris and know more about her family. There are times where you feel the emotion coming from Eris. She has a great passion for being in the woods and her family. Its heart  breaking when she is separated from her family and to think that she’ll never be able to go home will pull on your heart strings. Eris felt like she was being watch while she was hunting, but she thought it could have been lack of sleep or her mind playing tricks on her. Little did she know that she was right! Defending the village from the Nightwalkers was a family honor and she was more than happy to do it. She was only days away from her betrothal, which she was dreading. The day had come and the announcement was made. Little did Eris know everything was about to change for the rest of her life. She would have to fight for her family and the one that she loved for peace. Looking forward to reading more books from Eden Fierce!!

I'm in awe of this young author! This story was so well written and the characters carefully crafted. I found myself in the woods & the village, seeing everything as if this tale was about my own life. I would truly love to read more from these characters. Perhaps from Daniel's POV? Pretty please!  ;) I look forward to reading more from Eden in the future. Writing is definitely in your genes, my dear!

Eris is the only daughter of the Priory, a family whose responsibility is the protection of other humans, and the hunting of nightwalkers. She is getting ready to turn 17, which is when she will be betrothed, something that she is not looking forward to. This story follows Eris through her role as a hunter, a role that she has questioned since she was very young. A major change in Eris’ life makes her question who she is and all that she has ever known. Wow! What an amazing debut novel for Eden! I was very impressed with her writing style, character development, imagination, and brilliance. Eyes of the Woods is beautifully written, creative, and unique. I really enjoyed reading this book, found myself really attached to the characters, loved the interaction between the characters (especially between Eris and her family), and the overall pace of this book. I look forward to reading future novels by this author. Well done, Eden!!

I dont agree with those who gave this book five stars. It is okay for a first try, I guess, but there are too many echos of Twightlight, and other books. Anyway, I had to stop midway, and cant really recommend it. I wish this new author the very best. Keep writing.
