Genius: The Con (Genius Series #2) by Leopoldo Gout

Three teen geniuses from diverse backgrounds must work together to stop a vicious warlord in this fast-paced sequel to the YA novel Genius: The Game, written by Leopoldo Gout

"Genius is a breakthrough novel for young adults and others who love this mind-expanding genre. Genius is exciting, provocative, fresh, innovative, and smart, smart, smart. Please don't wait until Genius is a cult classic to read it." — James Patterson, #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Maximum Ride novels

If he trusts you, you're in. You'll be playing a dangerous game, and he makes all the rules. The only way to win is to do the unexpected.

Tunde: Fourteen-year-old engineering genius. Racing against time to save his Nigerian village from a ruthless warlord.

Painted Wolf: Mysterious sixteen-year-old activist blogger and strategist from China. Determined to rescue her father from corrupt plans of India's youngest CEO and visionary.

Rex: Sixteen-year-old Mexican-American programmer and hacker. Falsely accused of stealing billions of government secrets.

The con: Trick a vicious warlord. Infiltrate a mastermind's organization. Protect their families. Save the world.

Get ready to run!

Praise for Genius: The Game:

"Strong characters who show their bravery throughout, friendships that do not falter, and ethics that do not fail, even when characters are faced with the impossible, are a refreshing change to most teenage novels. Readers will be caught up in the brilliance of the three characters and be surprised at the many twists and turns that they must confront. A gripping must-have." —School Library Journal, starred review

"Gout's characters are believable and immensely likable and their friendship serves as a delightful and realistic anchor amid the fast-moving chaos. Science and technology may take center stage in Gout's fictional Game, but it's the less flashy craft of writing that sells the story." —The New York Times Book Review

"A fast-moving story that presents its protagonists with intriguing moral choices" —Publishers Weekly

Three diverse MCs with their different POVs return for the sequel to Genius: The Game. This continues to be an intelligent YA series, with higher stakes this time around for Rex, Tunde, and Painted Wolf, as their families are being threatened. With a quick pace, clever inventions, and fascinating technology, there's much to keep you glued to the pages. Personally, this one didn't hook me quite as much as the first book. Although the families of the MCs were threatened, I didn't get the same sense of urgency or intrigue I had with Genius: The Game, but judging by other reviews, I'm in the minority on this. I'd recommend this series to those interested in science, technology, and engineering and readers who enjoy wicked smart main characters. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the digital ARC.
