Bringing the language and manners of Royalty, the Nobility and the Gentry of the 18^th century onto the page, he strips down the famous and presents the bare bones of their often obnoxious personalities for all to see in a way that is humorous to a high degree, yet still manages to reveal both historical and technical research and knowledge. A recommended read.

Bob Barclay gives us a completely enjoyable imaginary tale of the Royal Conceit of 1749. A plausible scenario, which, in many ways, adds to our understanding of this historical event.

His Majesty’s Grand Conceit is a thoroughly enjoyable recounting of the 1749 fireworks exhibition in London. What makes the story especially entertaining to read is it’s told through the personal accounts of the main characters involved in arranging the historical event. The author dedicated the book to two of them; the reader comes to understand his choices, which initially might seem surprising.
