Holding Her Own by Marie-Nicole Ryan

Going undercover as newlyweds is a dangerous game... especially when you're falling in love.

FBI Special Agent Caitlin Chaney believes in going strictly by the book. She's determined to prove her success has nothing to do with her father's position in the federal government. To her way of thinking, Agent LeFevre is a rogue agent and determined to screw up her operation and her career. Just her luck.

Agent Jake Lefevre is used to running undercover ops his way, and he's not too happy with his new boss, Caitlin Chaney, who's primarily an FBI accountant. Her undercover experience is limited at best. He needs a partner who can hold her own, not some entitled prima donna.

Jake and Caitlin's tenuous cover as newlyweds at a New Orleans casino is tested from the outset as they cope with living together. It's imperative everyone believes they're madly in love and hot, hot, hot for each other. Their assignment is investigating a casino's money laundering and discover what happened to a whistleblower is almost compromised from the very beginning when Jake discovers Caitlin's boss and the casino's CFO is someone he knew and loved as a teenager. If he's recognized, the op will be over before it starts.

Oh my gosh! I never ever ever review books, but this honestly was the worst book I ever read! I honestly feel really bad saying that, as I respect authors completely, but this was BAD! The characters are awful, and with a setting like New Orleans I expected so much more, the descriptions were almost non-existant which made me think that this could be in any city. The relationship between them is "I love her" "I can't be with her" "I love her" "We'll make this work" "This won't work" "I love her" "There isn't a chance" back and forth!!! It drove me nuts! It seemed like the author threw in every possible thing she could to try to make it interesting! One person dies, then totally un-related another person dies, then towards the end of the book her tone changes and she throws in some dirty words and it was just so bizarre! Please save yourself the trouble. I read about 4-5 books a week, I'm a very avid reader, and I honest to goodness quit with only 15 pages left. I just really didn't care what happened! It was so bad!
