Hugh McKeever joins the Union Army as a 15 old boy before the battle of Antietam. His home town unit is part of the Irish Brigade, the 69th Pennsylvania Volunteers, E Company. Along with other Irish soldiers he walks from his first camp just north of Washington, D.C. though Antietam all the way to Appomattox, Virginia.
