About the Author

Bernie Siegel, M.D. embraces a philosophy that is at the forefront of a society grappling with medical ethics and spiritual issues. His books, Love, Medicine and Miracles published in 1986, Peace, Love and Healing in 1989, and How to Live Between Office Visits in 1993, have broken new ground in the field of healing. Over the span of twenty years, physicians have become increasingly more receptive to his message. Bernie's efforts have now turned toward humanizing medical care and medical education, and he continues to travel extensively with his wife Bobbie, to speak and run workshops, sharing his techniques and experiences. Bernie and Bobbie have five children and six grandchildren (so far).

I bought this this book with the intention of passing it on to my daughter who just graduated from Medical School. I liked the book so much that I felt I should keep it. I know I will refer to it if I ever need to be an "exceptional patient". I bought my daughter her own copy as I know she already feels that patients and doctors both need to believe in the power of positive thinking. Wether you've faced cancer yourself or with a family member or friend, this a book worth your time to read.

18 years after being diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer, I am still alive and well with no recurrances. My sister gave me this book, and I credit it for saving my life. I gave my copy away when I was a Reach to Recovery volunteer. Now my stepdaughter has been diagnosed with breast cancer. It took me three days to find the book again because I couldn't remember the exact title. But now that I have found it, she'll receive her own copy from me, with all my love.

I am 21 and had esophageal caner. I started reading this book after I got through with my surgery, chemo, and radiation therapy. It is a book I wish I could have read when I was healthy, and I think it will help you out if you are a patient, friend, family member, doctor, or a completely healthy person.

I plan on re-reading this amazing book, which should be mandatory reading for every student going into the medical profession. Whether faced with a serious illness or not, the book stimulates the spirit, bringing healing to our soul. Though no one lives forever, a soul at peace is like a 'nod' from us allowing the Great Physician to heal our body.

This book connected my formal medical education with my personal beliefs about taking care of yourself and loving your life. Will read again and have recommended to many.

I ordered this book to help me with my own medical issues. I was able to completely heal myself from the possibility of having a bone density transplant with a dental issue. I was told by the periodontist that I would need to have this done. I began practicing some of the methods suggested in this book and went back to see the doctor a month later. The doctor told me that it was rare but that sometimes the bone would grow back where it was not very dense and in my case this happened. I went back a month later for a check up just to be sure and the periodontist told me that I would not need the transplant.
