Moliere's relationship with the king started after Molière returned to Paris to perform "Les Précieuses Ridicules". The clever king ignored the complaints of the bourgeoisie because the satires amused him, and above all they were popular with the citizens. He controlled the nobility by forcing them to live half the year at Versailles, where they had to learn to dance.
