About the Author

Sarah Tolmie is an Associate Professor in the English Department of the University of Waterloo. She received her PhD at Cambridge. Her work with virtual reality and dance explores links between movement and proprioception — the body's sense of itself and its limits in space — and narrative and poetic structures and pathways. She has been a member of the Kitchener collective Friends of the Floor Dance Theatre, dancing in and concept-designing shows for and with them. In 2011 she co-founded the Raw Nerve Research Group, a team of three researcher/dancers (consisting of Tolmie, an engineer, and a computer scientist) who lead participatory workshops helping people understand complex interactions through movement. Her first novel, The Stone Boatmen, appeared from Aqueduct Press in 2014. A collection of her sonnets is forthcoming from Baseline Press in London.
