Overview

To keep the people she loves safe, Sara left everything she knew behind. She soon learns this new world is nothing like her old one, and she struggles to make a place for herself among the Mohiri. But it soon becomes apparent to Sara and to everyone one around her that she is not your typical warrior.

As the weeks pass, Sara builds new relationships, copes with her new trainers, and tries to manage her ever-changing powers, while keeping her unique heritage a secret. Looming in the background is the constant shadow of the Master who will do anything to find her.

Sara finds herself on a journey of self-discovery that uncovers her true strengths and awakens a part of her she never knew existed. She experiences the delight of new friendships, the sweetness and pain of first love, and a loss so deep it could be the thing that finally breaks her. At the end of it all, she discovers that the one place she was supposed to be safe might not be the refuge she thought it was.

About the Author

Karen Lynch is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. She grew up in Newfoundland, Canada - a place rich in colorful people and folklore to which she attributes her love of the supernatural and her vivid imagination. She moved to Charlotte, North Carolina years ago and was immediately charmed by the southern people but she says she will always be a newfie. Though she loves supernatural fiction, she has a soft spot for Charlotte Brontë and Jane Austen. She is a fan of classic rock, country and classical music but her favorite music is the sound of a good thunderstorm or a howling blizzard. Two of her favorite past times are baking artisan breads for her friends and spending quality time with her two German Shepherds.

Refuge is just as engaging and intriguing as Relentless. Sara is thrown into a new world living with her kinsmen the Mohiri. She has to make new friends and wonders/worries about her friends back home. She has yet to find herself anymore precarious and dangerous situations. And just close by enough to help protect her still is Nikolas. The snark and chemistry between the two keeps you on the edge of your  seat. The mystery of the incidents that keep happening to Sara had me guessing until the whodunit was  revealed. If you enjoy paranormal with a touch of mystery and romance I highly recommend continuing this series by reading Refuge.

This series is so well written that I had trouble putting it down. No pressure Karen, but I can hardly wait for October! I am not a YA but an OA (old adult :-) and, due to the excellent writing, became invested in the characters very quickly.

Refuge, is just as good or even better than the first. Sara has moved on to live with the Mohiri. But it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. She’s beginning to learn about herself and what she is. There is no denying the connection she has with Nikolas. Their chemistry and passion for each other just leapt off the pages. Even if Sara had a reluctance to have any type of relationship with him. A lot happens in Refuge and there’s no denying the skills that Lynch as as a writer. When you sit down and really think about it. All the new characters and creatures that appear in Refuge.  You have some sort of connection with all of them. Sara is also still as stubborn as before but she does think before she acts.. at least most of the time. She is young and has a lot more to learn about this world that she was introduced to in the first book. I’ve really grown to love Caitlin’s narration. She has brought Sara to life and all of the characters. But she made it even that much better. I love when you find a narrator, that your not just listening to them speak. You’re so engrossed in the story, you don’t know whats really going on around you. Overall, I give this Five Boundless Stars. I love this series!

O.M.G.!!! It's been a while since I read Relentless and now I've got a major urge to read it again, just so I can immerse myself in Sara's story right from the word go. This is one of those books that I bought immediately after I finished Relentless, but just never got the chance to read before life got in the way. Let me just say, that since I've finished this, life isn't going to get a chance to get in the way as I am starting Rogue straight away!! In Refuge Sara is living in a 'military-style compound' where she was dumped by Nikolas. Let's just leave at he is not her favourite person right now. She is struggling in training as she fears losing control of her Mori demon. She hasn't really made new friends, instead stays in phone contact with Roland, Peter, and of course, Uncle Nate. There is too much to give you a rundown of this book, and seriously, why on earth would I do that? That's what the synopsis is for!! Suffice it to say, Sara has a big learning curve in front of her. With her magic, she is learning new 'tricks', as well as receiving her very own early warning vampire radar. So many bits made me smile, so many bits made me frustrated for Sara, but most of all, I can't wait to see where it will go next. With one heckuva cliffhanger that really Nikolas should have seen coming a mile off knowing Sara (remember, I'm writing this before reading Rogue so I have no idea if he realises or not!) If you want a paranormal romance that is full of Mori demons, the fae, griffins, Alex the wyvern (love him!), hellhounds, vampires, shifters, absolutely gripping, full of action and adventure, romance, and 'real-life' reactions, then look no further. I really can't recommend this highly enough!!! * Verified Purchase on Amazon * Merissa Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!

Refuge is an excellent book! I couldn't put this book down once I started reading it. I loved all three and am soooo happy that Karen Lynch wrote them. I wish Warrior was already out! I hope she keeps writing!

Lynch continues in this second book of the trilogy to fascinate the reader with new characters while allowing familiar characters to develop and mature. The storyline continues to evolve in unique ways. A very good read. Highly recommended.

Karen Lynch did it again. Refuge, book 2 of The Relentless Series is outstanding. New friendships, relationships, and betrayal meet you in Refuge. Sara meets more of her family and the relationship dynamic of Sara and Nikolas will have you smiling throughout. Sara is a strong, brave, and powerful lady and I can't wait to see her grow more in Rogue and see her relationship with Nikolas grow together as equals.
