Denise Daniels came to Salem, MA to be in her best friend, Makayla's wedding, but her matron of honor duties find her confronting more than she bargained for. In her first moments in Witch City, she's greeted by a corpse used in a gruesome reanimation ritual.
Without warning, the final week of wedding preparations becomes mixed with a quick introduction to Wiccan practices, including necromancy used to communicate with the dead, as attacks by a mysterious, new coven seeking revenge increase. Denise soon becomes immersed in things she never expected, including automatisms-drawing elaborate pictures of two women in red cloaks in the woods-a pretty impressive feat for a girl who has only drawn stick figures prior.
As Denise tries to find her place in this world of magic, she discovers her own connection to the Salem of 1692. And, while losing the battle to save her heart from a romance that can never be, she ends up fighting to save her life.

[Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255 : “Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising."] "If I’ve learned anything from Salem, it’s that there is always time for both love and magic.” In this, Howell's second book set in Salem Massachusetts, we see Makayla's best friend Denise who has come into town from Ohio to stand as attendant at Mak and Noah's wedding. It has almost been a year since Makayla first came to Salem. The trial of the boys who hurt her is almost here, and she and Noah have planned to be married before it commences. This time, the narrative is told through Denise, a neophyte wiccan. Through her, we get more Salam History as they find a blood ancestory that binds them stronger than anything that might come at them. And...believe me.... it does with a stunning power that just might end their quest all together. Kiki Howell is a wonderful storyteller, grabbing the reader and almost placing them right there with Mak and Neece. I wish I had found this author sooner anbd highly recommend her to everyone.
