I purchased this book as a gift for my mom, who lived in France for a number of years in the '80s with my father, and who has recently been trying to cook more vegetarian meals. This book did not disappoint! So far, my mom’s favorite recipe to cook is the chickpea galette (socca), as my mom cannot have gluten and this calls for chickpea flour. Upon sampling the socca - something I’ve had plenty of times - I was pleasantly surprised by the addition of cumin, which Clotilde added to the recipe. My mother has made other recipes from this book, as well, and we’ve all enjoyed each one. As to the previous reviewer’s comments, I have yet to run into any flavor combinations that I find displeasing. And for the sables, Clotilde clearly instructs that the dough should be rolled between two sheets of parchment paper to a thickness of 1/3 inch - perhaps the reviewer missed this part. I highly recommend The French Market Cookbook. This book is a favorite for both of my parents, and a copy will be making its way to my kitchen very soon!

I made the mistake of buying this book in the e-book format. This format has small pictures and huge text that sits on the page in a way making it difficult to read. The content is excellent...well written stories, tips, and cultural notes along with wonderful recipes. I subsequently bought the paperback version in order to fully enjoy this beautiful cookbook.

These recipes are off. I do a lot of French cooking and fresh market ingredient cooking and I just don't get these flavor combinations...and some directions need to be revised...sables need to be pressed down before baking so they spread a little, etc. Sorry...not for me or my clients !
