I loved this book and re-read it from time to time. The romance between Foxy and Lance takes place around the world of F-1 and Indy car racing, and began when she was a starry-eyed teenager. Lance is Foxy's brother's best friend and a fellow racer. After an attempt by Foxy to romance Lance, he pushes her away, breaking her young heart. They meet again several years later and Lance realizes that Foxy has grown up. He tries to woo her back into his life, for keeps this time.

It's an old book, and it shows, but it's actually one of the better books of her very oldest ones. Some nice characterization with Foxy & her brother--his dedication to racing, her dedication to him, despite the terror his racing induced in her. Lance is a nice guy, but a pretty typical paternalistic hero of the genre at that time. I didn't get what the rush was for them to get married--Lance does at least try to explain near the very end. And Lance's mother was a 2-dimensional motivationless stock character. Add to that the near-rape Lance used to shut Foxy up in an argument, and the fact that I cringed every time I read her name (WTF was Nora thinking? FOXY? I've gotta say, I actually agreed with Lance's mother when she first heard the name. It sounds like a name for a sleazy stripper in a cheap strip joint in 1975.)

Another classic Nora Roberts book, not as intrigueing as her current novels but still told in her usual voice. If your browsing through her older books take a glance at this one, it's a quick read.

I thought about buying this book because while I love Ms. Roberts writing I am not a fan of auto racing... Didn't matter, I am now a fan of this book but till not a fan of auto racing LOL... The story of Lance and Foxy transends the auto racing story line... Very believable and very romantic...Short but worth the price and certainly worth the time... Beautiful love story and very tastefully done as is Ms. Roberts style. Read and enjoy!!

To the obnoxious wannabe storyteller wasting space with the stupid cat crap...this is a book review site. Not a place to write idiotic tales. Take it to facebook, myspace, a web site or blog. It does not belong here.
