About the Author

Joel Mendonca was born and raised in Goa, India. He came to the US to pursue higher education at the height of the Great Recession in 2008. His experiences are a testimony to the daunting challenges faced by working class people in their quest to build a career and a new life in the United States. He witnessed first-hand, the troubled job market during the recession and very poor prospects for career building. Not only were internships hard to come by but even part-time campus jobs were difficult to get. With his two Masters degrees, he set about on an arduous path of applying for jobs that he was qualified for. But in so doing came face to face with a firewall of work visa sponsorships and cost-cutting employers. This book is based on an adaptation of some of his personal experiences through this long, difficult struggle. He is qualified as an accountant and has a degree in computer systems as well. In his free time, he can be found penning movie scripts or running track.
