Overview

Newly widowed Natalie Waters expects only nostalgia and solitude at her quiet, rustic cabin. But the wilderness conceals more than one perilous mystery. Where in Wisconsin’s Northwoods did the notorious gangster John Dillinger hide $210,000 following a violent FBI shootout? And why do the local timberwolves incite so much rage among Natalie’s neighbors?
As predators circle and howl in the dark, Ginger, the bartender at the nearby Star Lake Saloon, draws Natalie deep into the secrets not only of Dillinger but of the ecologies of family, forest, and heart. With the reluctant support of her granddaughter and advice from a handsome wolf biologist, Natalie is forced to choose between adversity and adventure.
Sara Rath continues her popular Northwoods saga in this affirming and often humorous tale of romance, betrayal, and danger.

As a child, I was fortunate to be included when my best friend's family visited their cottage near Land 'o Lakes, Wisconsin. This novel by Sara Rath has brought back so many memories! We, too, went to the dump at night to watch the bears come to dig through the garbage, and lazy days floating on the lake on innertubes (does anyone do that anymore?) were pure bliss. Now my friend is gone, I'm no longer living in the midwest, but I have enjoyed reliving those memories with the colorful characters in this delightful novel. It's a great summertime read but I'd recommend it for any time of the year.

I loved this book. It was just as great as Star Lake Saloon. So much of her stories about cabin life I can identify with as we grew up on Lake Vermillion in NE Minnesota. Thanks for the memories and the great stories. We have been to Little Bohemia numerous time also. What a great place. I just ordered her book Night Sisters. Can't wait to get it. Great writer.

Fun, easy read, especially for anyone who has vacationed 'up north'. I hadn't read the Rath's other Star Lake book (yet) and this one was still enjoyable as a standalone.
