Overview

*****This book is YA, but does contain a darker theme and some language.*****

Waking up in a house she doesn't recognize, sixteen-year-old, Sophia Sawyer, tries not to let the blankness of her mind terrorize her from the inside out. How can she not know who she is? How has she ended up chained in a basement? Trying to work through her fear, she sets her sights on escaping. When an opportunity arises, she puts her trust in a boy she doesn't know, praying he will save her life.
At age four, Abram Scott learned life owes him nothing, while fourteen taught him how to throw a punch-and take one. Seventeen though... seventeen provides him with the best and worst year of his life. Before he is old enough to fight for his country, he will escape his own personal hell, save a life, live a lie, break the law, fall in love, betray that love... then lose it.
Letting Sophia go while not knowing if she will return, turns into the scariest decision Abram will ever make. But that's the problem with living a lie; at some point, you have to decide which one is your truth

TRAVESTY written by Carrie Thomas 5 stars This is my first Carrie Thomas read...wow...just wow. It had my emotions on high alert from the start. You learn that regardless of what family you are born into or where your circumstances take you it is up to you to live the life you want to live. Your circumstances or faults do not define you...your actions and truth do. Abram aka Abe had been in the foster care system most of his life. The last family he was placed with tested his inner strength more than anything in his seventeen years in his life had. He was not a product of his environment. He had a plan for his future and just when he was about to put it in place his life was turned upside down by an unexpected discovery. “Freedom meant different things to different people. Escaping an abusive relationship, getting out from under your pops’ roof, or making your own choices were all viable meanings, but for me, it simply meant being me. Finding me.” Sophia had a family that most people looking from the outside in would dream about, yet she just felt like she was invisible. She went through life lonely and just existing not thriving like she dreamed for herself. She was happiest watching others through the lens of a camera. Sophia finds herself in a terrifying situation and may find out what true loneliness is...or will she end up thriving in the circumstances she's thrown into with nothing, but herself to decide how to make the most out of her new normal. “True strength comes from facing your fears.” “Will Sophia and Abe continue facing obstacles thinking diffican’t or find their strength and diffican.”

Travesty by Carrie Thomas – 5 stars Travesty is one of those books that you read hoping and praying that this is all made up and none of this could possibly be true in today’s society. Sadly we know this is not the case. This is the story of Abram who grew up in foster homes and Sophia who became a victim of Abram’s foster “parents”. This is the story of strength and resolve and heroic measures to make things right. This story was, at times, hard to read and yet held a glimmer of hope even in the darkest of pages. My hope is that there is an Abram in every Sophia’s life. The innocence yet maturity that both characters show tells a story all on its own. This story is a classic tale of family of origin vs family of choice and the decisions that one makes to be part of either. Travesty is considered a Young Adult book with darker themes yet it’s told with such an innocence that it makes it feel lighter rather than darker. I have never read anything by Carrie Thomas before and I enjoyed her writing style. From the very first sentence I was intrigued by this story. There was a conservative use of words and of emotions yet the story is told so vividly that I could picture each scene. This is told in a dual point of view and I recommend this book for ages high school and above.

Travesty by Carrie Thomas 5 Stars A Brilliant must read!!! Ok so although there were some difficult to read parts of this book, I absolutely LOVED it!! My first book by this author and most certainly won't be my last..I did not want this book to end. I'm not going to rewrite the authors synopsis of this book, it speaks for itself and for me to expand on anything more than what she wrote will not allow another reader to appreciate and be drawn in as I was. I will say that this story had me thinking deeply about how real many parts of this book probably are in real life today. The character building in this story was amazing and falling in love with them was very easy. The immense trust and restraint was so beautifully written throughout this whole entire story, and not just the main characters but the secondary characters as well, that I so many times felt like I knew these characters personally and felt so proud of them. So many times I was scared to death of how this story was going to unfold, with living with so many lies, so many laws broken, and so much deceit this author had a million routes she could have taken at the end, and playing all these routes in your head while reading this story have you turning the pages faster yet not wanting to get to the end all at the same time. What a unique story, and I can honestly say that if every book I read from this day forward was written just as this one is I would be completely content, and can't wait to check out all of the other work by this author. I would also love more about all of the characters in this book, I don't see any sign of a part two as of now but a reader can hope :) This is an absolute must read!!

Travesty by Carrie Thomas. Rated 5 stars Wow! I was hooked from on this book from the first couple pages. The writing drew me in along with the Abrams plight. I enjoyed that there was enough detail in the story so I could envision what Abram was talking about but not so much detail that I lost interest. It was perfect. This is a great story with completely believable characters. I was intrigued just from reading the synopsis and the full story of these two wonderful people and how they become friends is crazy good. Abram is an amazing kid! I was very very impressed with his character! What he did for Sophia....I have no words. Not because I don't want to tell you but because I am in awe of him. The strength, honor, protectiveness and resourcefulness are all traits I associate with Abram. Granted he told a few lies and broke a few laws but I don't really think he knows how else to protect them. He might have lived through a lot but he is still young himself. Sophia has been through a little of what Abram’s life was like during her week stay. After an injury occurred during the event she became dependent on Abram not that she cares because she worships and trusts him. He figures everything out for them to move forward and does anything to take care of her. Will she still think so highly of him when a few lies come out? This is the first time I have read this author and I loved the wording and flow of story. It kept me interested and I read it pretty quickly. I will have to check out her other books and pick up something else from a new favorite author.

Travesty is raw, real, and has the glimmer of hope that shines bright! Y’all have you ever read a book that makes you want to hold the characters in your arms and tell them that it will be okay? Travesty is the story of Abram & Sophia. Both of their stories intertwine together and a new journey begins for two teens. One that no teen or individual of any age should have to endure. If you’re looking for a story that is against the norm, but full of love and light in darkness then Travesty is for you.
