Overview

He avoids her because of the strange physical pain he feels when they touch. She avoids him because the way everyone seems to do what he says scares her. But when Claire needs to escape a bad situation Uriah is the first person she thinks of, and he is eager to rescue her. Faced with each other for the first time, both Uriah and Claire find it impossible to listen to their fears and stay away from one another. They soon find out, though, that there is more than they ever thought possible trying to keep them apart.

Following tradition the pair approaches the Elders of their Tewa tribe to ask permission to marry. Everyone is shocked when the shaman refuses them, claiming they are not Twin Souls. Confused and angry Uriah refuses to listen, and promises them that he will never abandon Claire. When Claire is poisoned by her vindictive father his resolve is tested. Ancient Native American myths and legends spring into reality, doing everything they can to keep Uriah from saving Claire’s life, while beginning to reveal the truth behind the lies he has been told all his life.

Meet the Author

DelSheree Gladden was one of those shy, quiet kids who spent more time reading than talking. Literally. She didn't speak a single word for the first three months of preschool, but she had already taught herself to read. Her fascination with reading led to many hours spent in the library and bookstores, and eventually to writing. She wrote her first novel when she was sixteen years old, but spent ten years rewriting and perfecting it before having it published. Native to New Mexico, DelSheree and her husband spent several years in Colorado for college and work before moving back home to be near family again. Their two children love having their seventeen cousins close by. When not writing, you can find DelSheree reading, painting, sewing and trying not to get bitten by small children in her work as a dental hygienist. DelSheree is the author of the Escaping Fate Series, Twin Souls Saga, The Destroyer Trilogy, The Aerling Series, Someone Wicked This Way Comes Series, and Date Shark Series.

I found the general story line interesting. I liked where it was going and I was generally interested in the characters. However I think it needed an extra oomph. I felt like it wasn't fully developed enough. It didn't seem to know exactly where it was going. But overall I really did like it.

In a world where such a thing as "twin souls" exist, two people meant for each other, what happens when two non-twin-souls meet and fall in love? You get denied by your tribal Elder Council with your marriage request apparently. And such is the plight of Claire and Uriah. Told from a male narrative mostly, Uriah is the strapping son of a local rancher, he's handsome, kind, chaste, humble, hard-working, athletic, and fair. Claire, who offers a bit of narrative here and there, is the spoiled, manipulative daughter of one of the richer families in town. So obviously, he is completely in love with her since forever (sorry, pet peeve initiated....why is the shallow girl getting the nice guy again?) Once they are denied being together, with Claire in danger, Uriah set's out to help her, with some assistance from unexpected places. And the boy does know how to pine, the last third of the book is so much about Claire's milk chocolate eyes, and her glowing skin, and how he would touch her face, over, and over, and over. Granted he's seeking Claire's twin soul, which could end his relationship with her forever, but...it gets a bit repetitive. One thing that is refreshing, is that it's a semi-paranormal teen romance book that digs into some Native American lore (real or fictitious I'm not sure) that hasn't been covered, as far as I know, or have read of before. No werewolves appear...though there is one shapeshiftery type. Anyhow, it was an easy and entertaining read. It didn't rock my soul, I didn't put it down and think, I am not the same girl after reading this, that I was before. Which can happen with a book experience. But again, it was a pleasant passage of a few hours.

At first I was worried it was going to be too young for me. I am thirty and many of the YA books are just too high school for my taste. However, this book was wonderful. It is well written and fast paced. I cannot wait to start book two. Rlt

I really enjoyed the American Indian mythology come-to-life in this story - but we went from zero to mach 10 in the relationship pieces of this, a bit hard to believe at first. But a good read, enjoyable, enough that I will purchase additional books to see where things go from here.

Like other reviewers I found this book a decent read but it somehow lacked oomph. It was not a lovers book and I am okay with that but a book about people loving and learning that their love is not meant to be, They are fighting for what they want against fate....destiny and tradition, If you believe in any of these then you should enjoy this book.

I picked up this book because I knew it would be a clean read that involved a bit of Native American mythology. The story centers around a couple of teens, she is the daughter of the wealthiest man in town, he is the son of a rancher. Uriah has been in love with Claire for as long as he can remember. They come together when Claire orchestrates a fight with her boyfriend. I am usually able to find something about a book that I like. I regret that is not the case with this one. The pace of this book is slow and uneven, at points boring. The editing is poor to non-existent. I made it to page 95 before I finally had to give it up as a lost cause. There are problems with missing words, extra words, incorrect words ("conceded" and "conceited" are NOT interchangeable). Some sentences read as though the author had a new thought/idea or just changed her mind mid-sentence. I cannot in good conscience recommend this book to readers in its current condition. I think the potential for a good story is in there somewhere, but at the time of writing this review, her book reads like a work in progress. I would urge the author to remove this book from sales and have it properly edited. Because of the problems with the book at this time, I regretfully can only give it 2 stars.
