Overview

The first in-depth analysis of how an individual's natal horoscope reveals the unique challenges and opportunities of midlife.

Between the ages of thirty-seven and forty-one, something mysterious takes place within the psyche.  Jung called this phase our "unlived life," assuming rightly that midlife did not inaugurate a time of rapid decay, loss of libido, and inevitable death—but rather ushered in a period in which one might review one's life and build upon a strong foundation toward the next phase of adulthood.

Acclaimed astrologer Erin Sullivan takes us through the vast changes that astrology reveals as we reach middle age.  It is a moment in life that is characterized by the planet Uranus, one filled with opportunities to both rethink the past and move forward toward the future, "witnessing" our lives in the way Uranus connotes.  There exist no maps of the terrain—except the natal horoscope.

In this follow-up to Saturn in Transit, which dealt with the passage of birth to midlife, astrologer Sullivan offers insight into the aging process, using her vocation to demonstrate how people move through their planetary cycles as they approach milestones. Uranus plays a large role in the dawning of middle age; as it moves slowly through its own cycle, people can take the time to evaluate all that has happened to them and use this accumulated knowledge to plan for the future and change what isn't working in life-relationships, friendships, career choices, and otherwise. Rather than view midlife as the end of youth, Sullivan sees it as a time of rebirth during which she encourages readers to travel, stay active, and not give up on the pursuit of love. This volume offers technical insight into astrology but can be easily understood by laypeople. Good for any collection where astrology is popular.-Susan Flaherty, Portland, ME Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
