"May the Black Rose protect you in life and avenge you in death." – Vow of the Black Rose
A woman with no memory of her past. Another unable to forget. Both haunted by a sinister creature of roses and shadow with an unquenchable thirst for royal blood. Return to the world of the Black Rose Guard.
Mara, Captain of the Black Rose for over eight hundred years, thought she had taken her last immortal life. But now, with her sub-captain dead at the hands of the Arum Court, she again must don the blade she vowed to never raise again. However, the task will prove ever more dangerous as the shadow of Mara's past returns to awaken the long-dormant roses.
Reunited with her lost love, Mara must also come to terms with her past in order to embrace her future. Can she forgive the man she loves for betraying her heart? And can she redeem herself for the death of the princess she failed to save?
Across the sea, Sandra is haunted by the same presence, leading her deeper into the pieces of her mysterious past. Echoes of memory. Glimpses of fate. And a secret that will change everything for both herself and the captains who seek to rescue her from the hands of Mathew, King of the Arum Court, who has a dark agenda of his own.
Join the captains of the Immortal Guard on their journey toward honor, vengeance, forgiveness, and a love that refused to be banished.

Blood Rose by KL Bone is the third in the Black Rose Guard Series. Blood Rose continues the saga, and it is an epic saga, of the Black Rose Guard and what created it. The Guard itself is attacked at their home base, something that has never happened in the centuries it has existed, and they must answer this challenge. Mara and Edward have just found each other again. Is it just to lose themselves again? And who is this Sandra that seems to be the cause of the attack? Questions abound, and answers come slowly, which is just as it should be to keep you intensely engaged. And you are intensely engaged in this series; you would be hard-pressed no to be, given the incredible world building, and incredibly well-developed characters. Full 5 stars.
This is the third book in this series and they must be read in order. These books tear my heart to shreds but I can’t wait to read the next one. So much takes place during the book(s) that you can’t help but feel for the characters. They have been through so much. I normally don’t really like books that go back and forth in time, but it is done in such a way in these books that it doesn’t bug me the way it usually does. Maybe it’s because I am so wrapped up in the characters and their stories. This book is about a great love that never seems will get to happen even know it is happening. I know that probably doesn’t make sense. Edward and Mara are in love and they are the other halve to their immortal souls but it seems like they will never get a break; a chance to really get to enjoy that love. Things that were done in their pasts to each other and for each other continue to plague them. Things can’t be undone and they especially Mara are having a hard time working through that and forgiving their self. With each book at the end I feel like I finally know all of what happened in their past and then I start the next book and find out more. These books are incredible. K.L. Bone is a fantastic author. She creates a world in which you can’t help but get sucked in. The characters have such depth and you feel as if they are real. I love paranormal/supernatural whatever you want to call them. You are taken to a world where things that aren’t possible in ours is possible in theirs. I truly feel for Mara. Her life has been one of disappointment and hurt. The past has well and truly caught up to the present. All the characters are there for each other and even if they aren’t blood family they are family. I can’t say enough about this book or the others in this series or about K.L. Bone. I highly recommend reading this series.
