The book provides a wealth of Information on the major events of Polish history since 1939: the Second World War, Stalinism, the uprisings of 1956, 1968 and 1980-81, the political reforms in the late 1980s, the transition to a multi-party system and the growth of democracy. It describes demographic and social changes between 1939 and 2015 as well. An outstanding feature of Friszke's and Dudek's work is the treatment of the newest developments in Poland up to 2015.
